I have just bought a new MacBook Pro and at the same time purchased an airport extreme base station. I currently have a netgear wireles router/modem, so had intended to replace this with the base station so I could have a faster transfer speed plus have the ability to network a printer and external HD.

What I did not realise until I had got the base station home is that it needs a seperate modem. Does this mean I now have to buy a seperate asdl modem or will it plug into my existing netgear? If it can plug into my netgear would this not also mean that I would then have 2 wireless networks? In that case would the airport base station then pick up my isp login details from the netgear?

Any advice on the best setup for my current situation would be appreciated.

Disable the wireless broadcasting on the Netgear router, and plug the Extreme into it via an ethernet cable. It should be that easy. 🙂
