I do have the Airport status icon in my menu bar, but it's dimmed (light grey), which I'm assuming means there is no signal. I am broadcasting the SSID, but the network name doesn't show up... further confirming that my Airport Extreme card is not "seeing" the network.

I've checked the router's settings, but not through Airport. I can only see the router when I'm connected via a LAN cable. I don't think I'm too far away or subject to obstructions/interference because 4 other PCs (one desktop and 3 laptops) all throughout the house can see the wireless network even though they're further away or on a different story of the house.

Finally, I'm not trying to use AOL. Just trying to connect to the internet via a Comcast cable connection.

Thanks for trying... any other ideas?

you might wanna check out the forums on apple's support site. there is a very, very long thread of people with wireless connection problems. most of them recently upgraded to a newer version OS, so there may be a software problem on your Mac, and not a problem with your router.

most common problems are:
- wireless network is not visible to the Mac (though visible to other computers)
- after connecting to the wireless network the connection is lost after a couple of minutes and can only be regained by restarting the machine
- when connected transmissionrates drop dramatically
- transferring large files leeds to disconnect from the wireless network and only a restart will let you reconnnect to the wireless network
the mouse/cursor becomes very twitchy, shakey or generally disturbed during these problems

this seems to happen mostly with the newest iBooks and with all diffferent types of wireless routers

unfortunately I seem to suffer from these problems too... I haven't found a solution yet...

succes!

I just recently got the WGT54G and a new iBook and iMac. I have one iMac wired to the wireless router and the iBook and other iMac are wireless.

Everything is working fine here, i did have to restart my computers to let it see the network and then i worked, but that was it. The only problem i have found is that my signal seems to drop off a lot.

I have had 2 Netgear router and now the Linksys. The Two netgears i had for about a week each and i ended up restarting them about 5 times all together. I got the router yesturday at about 2p.m. and i had to restart it at about noon today. I am pretty sure that it is not a Sprint DSL problem because if i take the router out of the picture and just connect the modem everything works fine.

So like someone else said, i might be having the same problem as others with the new iBooks and wireless.

I have a new 12" ibook-- have had it for about a month. I have an almost 2 year old WRT54G at home. I read one of these threads before the ibook arrived and it said to upgrade the Linksys firmware. I did that, and the new ibook worked flawlessly-- I just typed in the WEP code and got to work. I took the ibook to my inlaws a couple of weeks ago and set up their new Linksys WRT54G, which already had newer firmware-- and it worked perfectly too. I'd venture to guess that your trouble is with AOL. Google it too; it took me a while to get my inlaws' router to work with a Comcast cable internet connection; a google search cleared everything up.
