Hi,
I have a router in my basement that is connected to all the bedrooms upstairs but in one of the rooms I need another switch of sorts to share the connection with the many devices I have. I would also like to add a wireless network so I thought the airport extreme would be perfect.

In the past I have connected one router into another's LAN port so it just asks as a switch and the first router does all the NAT. Would it be possible to do the same with the Aiport and still retain the wireless functionality? I don't want to plug it into the WAN port as then I would be creating my own subnet which would make file transfers and LAN games between my roommates and I more difficult.

Thanks for your time,

Andrew

Yes, it'll work - I have mine plugged into my router in that way, it works fine. You need to set it to bridge mode in the manual configuration part of Airport Utility though.

Thanks a lot. I went out and bought one and it works perfectly. Got a great price too, $112CDN + tax.
