I have an airport extreme and 1TB hard drive. I want to share it wirelssly using airpoort. But for the first backup with time machine, i am worried that it will take ages. Can i do it locally for the first time and then move it? Or does this not work?
Thanks:apple:

It worked for me with a shared external off PowerBook, not thru Airport.

I connected an external to my girlfriend's iBook, ran Time Machine, unmounted, connected external to my PowerBook, shared external on network, pointed iBook's Time Machine to the shared external.

Sorry for the confusion. I meant...

It should work. Since it worked for me with a shared external off my PowerBook.

I didn't try it with an Extreme (don't own one).
