how would i forward port 22 for ssh on my airport extreme

i am trying to ssh remotely to an ubuntu smb server

Are you able to SSH internally OK?

Is there any chance that you ISP blocks port 22? Mine does for non-business accounts. I set my router to forward external port 443 to internal port 22. Why they block port 22 and not port 443 is beyond me.

i can internally ssh fine and how would i find out if port 22 is blocked

i should also add i did remost access to to my readyns with readynas remote when i used it i am not sure if it was ssh or ftp or what tho

If you can ssh from your Mac to the external IP address of your router (and it works), but it doesn't work if you try it from a location outside of your house, then it might be blocked by your ISP.

if i use another website and test if my ports are open before i map the port it says no rout to host and after it says connection timed out i tried with both port 22 and 80

Hmm. I have TCP port 443 forwarded to port 22 of my jailbroken Apple TV and both of the test sites you've listed work OK for me.

Your setup look like this? Port 80's really commonly blocked. Maybe try 443 as a test?

i tried this and it was still closed/timed out

i was able to determine that port 15895 is open even without forwarding it i am using it to broadcast myplex

i look at my isp (Mediacom) website and they said Mediacom does not block any traffic through any specific ports

so i have determined that when i use this website from ubuntu it says the port is open but when i use it from os x it says the port is closed port 22

When you goto that website, is the IP addr in the Remote Address box different when you use Ubuntu vs when you use it with OS X?

it varied based on when i tried it but don't worry i got a new router
