airport problems

Hi ive had the same problem with airport disconnecting from my home network for a long time. I just moved to a new house and my wifi will stay connected for like 10 seconds then it just loses signal and i have to turn airport on and off until it reconnects. Lately ive had to reboot as well. I had this problem at my old house and i just assumed it was my router and wifi card since my macbook is like 5 years old even though none of my roommates had this problem. I bought a new router, set up the new network and never had the problem again. Im now using my new roommates router and my wifi will not stay connected. I was told if i use the airport assist me option and name my network ie home it would fix the problem. That worked for about a day. Do i need to do a clean restore? I never have this problem away from home.
