Get info doesn't seem to work so I can't tell how much space is being used. All I get is the spinning gear for "more info." Is this normal? Is there another way to get info?

System Preferences > Time Machine. Should show you Time Capsule info, with available space.

In response to the OP. Its now several years later, time capsule has been updated, now on OS X 10.10.3 and this is still a problem. Come on Apple, fix this.
