Yesterday I updated via software update and airport went a bit screwy. Today I cannot turn airport on having disabled it to save battery life. Anyway talking to a apple tech right now and she just found it may be an update problem. So don't update if it is still there and if you all ready did don't turn Airport off lest not be able to turn it back (what she advised me), even though.... Ok now I'm talking to a techier tech He says working on a fix... Says this only happens with this update when restart the computer when airport is off. So I have airport up... I had to delete two plist files and reboot (file names com.apple.airport.preferences.plist and preferences.plist) these files in hard drive then library then preferences then SystemConfiguration. Anyways i deleted the files the empty trash then reboot and airport is now on and I can connect all is well just thought you all might like to know and not have to call tech support like I did.

    Peace,
    Jameel

Thanks for looking out for us, but I'm sure they meant it may be a problem updating YOUR Mac, not that the update in general is bad. Millions have installed that update with no problem.

    hmmm

The tech said it was a known issue.... maybe just for the air... anyhow if you have no problems that is good but if anyone does then at least they can try what helped me thats all. Maybe the beware was tooo extreme but not having wifi on the air is a big deal. Also my wifi is still a bit screwy even after the reset and the tech said to look for a fixed update that they would be pushing so that makes me think it isn't my Air. Heck if it is my Air I want it fixed, give me a new airport card.

    Peace,
    Jameel

I though people have had enough problems to get the update yanked.

    Same problem

I had the same thing happen to me. I installed updates yesterday, then all of a sudden my Airport was off and would not turn back on. Glad I found this post- I followed the procedure jamshah mentioned and everything was up and running after reboot.

    Yay I'm helpful

Well If we all look out for each other we will be able to find fix's fast and save ourselves time and frustrations. Glad to be of service.

P.S. raingirl um you say u updated yesterday? Cause i updated on about the 21 of Oct (and had the problem stated above), and then about 2 days ago another airport update came through and i figured it was a fix to the one i applied earlier! Hmmm so if I turn off airport and the reboot, Airport won't turn on (maybe)? Well if anyone else knows whether this is truly fixed please pipe in cause i would like to know.

    WOW, Thanks!!!!

I had the same thing happen to me. I just got my macbook air back from apple due to a problem with the audio. I also read about saving some valuable disk space from another posting here. So I got everything installed fresh and new, ran updates and then no airport. So I thought something went wrong with the install, did it TWICE! Then again no airport. So I came here on my iphone to just read, knowing later it would be a tech support call to Apple. Alas, here was the post!!!!! THANKS SO MUCH. Worked perfectly!!!!
Jamshah you are a lifesaver! Thanks again
