I'm trying out Airprint in 4.2, and I'm confused.
1) I can only see the 'Print' option in Photos, Mail and Safari, so how do we print files in iDisk, Dropbox, Docs2Go, etc.?
2) when I try to print to a printer connected to my PC, it is seen OK, but when I select it, I get a prompt that says 'Password required for Epson.... @ Iain-PC'! Evey username and password combo I know just fails. I have no idea about passwords on printers.
Any ideas?

I can't even get my printer to show up, it just keeps saying Printer Not Found. I checked my printer preferences in OSX and my computer sees it and the printer is shared over the network.

I'm no expert on this, but are you running 10.6.5?
If not, then it won't work on OS X.
I'm running Windows 7 and it SHOULD work with itunes 10.1 beta.

You've also got to have the document loaded in an app to print it, no?

You might want to pick up Pages or some reader that accepts a lot of formats and supports 4.2

Do you have OS X 10.6.5? It's required before printers show up.

OP, the apps have to be updated I think before the app will actually link to AirPrint. So far I've only gotten the Safari and Mail apps to print stuff, so I assume the updates for the rest of the apps will starts coming soon.

I appreciate what you say about Apps needing to be updated, but it's my point 2) that I'm more concerned about.
I just get a Username/Password prompt when trying to print to my printer from Mail or Safari.

Well, I'm like an earlier poster now. My printer won't show up at all now.
This is not looking good!

Works fine for me with a printer shared by windows 7 ultimate and iTunes Beta. The windows machine is on a domain and i get prompted for user name and password and I just enter my details and it prints. If you are using a standalone machine, I think you have to enable the guest account for it to work.
Apps will need to be updated to support printing which is why it's only currently available in mail, etc.

Yep, according to AppleInsider:

PC users on Windows 7 will also need to enable a "Guest" account on their machine in order to use AirPrint

You are a star! The guest account thing and a quick reboot did it. Working great now, thanks a lot.

I've gone backwards again on this. After my success, I've gone back to 'no printer found'. Seems pretty flaky at this moment.

Well, I'm still unconvinced unfortunately.
I've now tried Airprint with 4 printers, and this is the result.
1) Finds my main one - Epson 2100 - intermittently. (About 1 in 4 chance!)
2) Doesn't see my HP wireless at all, which is strange as I can print directly to it via other iPad apps, e.g. Print n Share.
3) Doesn't see my Lexmark wireless, or my other Epson wired at all.
This is not looking good at the moment.

Works fine for me, printed 2 emails, since pages doesn't have the option to print, I emailed a pages document and printed the attachment via email and apples internal viewer.

That's great - Glad to help :)

I noticed you are having problems again now: I think iTunes has to be running on Windows for AirPrint to work through that route: Have you checked that it's still running?

will try this now, but isnt having a guest account open a bit of a security risk?

Again Phil, you've cracked it. That was the problem exactly, and also explains why I was getting an intermittent problem, becuase iTunes wasn't always loaded.
I'm going to try it on OS X when 10.6.5 is released to see if it is easier.
Do you think that Airprint will ever get integrated into a Windows update, or we stuck with having to ensure that iTunes is running all the time?

I spoke too soon again.
It's still totally intermittent. sometimes iPad sees 2 printers, and most of the time it sees none.
Having iTunes running and Guest Account on doesn't seem to make a difference.
There must be something else going on.

I got it to work on my Win7 PC at home.
It took some tweaking but it worked.

A little bothered that I have to have the printer shared and iTunes open all the time.

Apple has all these programs running in the background, they can't add a printer monitor to those programs?
