So I bought an air tag for my dogs collar in case he runs off. He has yet thankfully
but I walk him every day near cold water, beaches and lakes.

He loves diving in the sea or swimming in the lake. He has worn it for nearly two years now in
all weather conditions and the battery is still more than two thirds full.

Tremendous product by apple again.

Bravo

You're completely right hahaha. I thought I'd had it for two years. COVID breaks have me confused. Either way, Battery is still nearly full. Its been in the North Sea more often than not, rivers lakes, mud baths. And still works really well. My point being is that they seem to be very robust.

What type of battery does it use? I'm assuming it's one of the 3V coin batteries, but does anyone know the size?

The Airtag on my son's keys is still showing full battery almost a year later. I've pinged it a couple of times too, so it's not been sitting idle. Absolutely impressive!

I wouldn't say that the battery lasts such a long time. It mostly depends on how you use the AirTag based on my experience. I own three AirTags. Got them in November. The ones that I usually have around me (next to the phone) are fine so far. The battery of the one that has usually been placed about 200 yards away had died after 5 months. Thank goodness it's not a problem to get a new battery.

I just had a weird behavior on two of my 3 AirTags. I removed them from my iPhone to add them to my other iPhone on a different AppleID and when I tried to connect them, it kept saying my battery is too low. Which it clearly isn’t. I had to open the AirTag and press the battery against the AirTag (while open) and then I could connect them no problem. Afterwards I closed the AirTag again and it stayed connected.

Has anyone found good replacement batteries in the UK? I bought Duracell but they don't work as they have that special anti-kid coating on, and then I bought some cheapo ones off Amazon but they seem to only last a couple of months before reducing the capability of the AirTag

I have the same style of battery. I'm asking the obvious, but you did peel the kid proof sticker off the battery before you put it in the Air Tag? ( You have to get a fingernail under the edge to get it started, then it just peels away super easy )

been almost a year now my airtag in my motorcycle is still running looks like 80% based on the icon, sucks apple hates battery percentages when it comes for iphones and airtags

It's because it's really difficult to estimate battery life left on those CR2032.

You can remove the coating with a bit of acetone. Amazon are mostly fake, the only legit one I found was the Maxell made in Japan with a hologram on the package.

Energizer is a high quality brand (Duracells main competition in the US) that sells them without a coating.

Mine has been a year, I also left it outside in my car with the outside dropping -20c in the winter. It still show 90% battery life.

I got a pack of Duracell 2032 from Costco and I just used a damp paper towel to wipe the “child safe coating”. Worked fine after.

I also got a notification a few days ago. I bought them on release so that's about 14 months, but they still have life left in them for a couple more months.

Stupid question, but where do you see the battery level? When I have pulled my Airtag up in the Find My App it does not show me a battery level?

I have tags I bought on their initial release day (they are hitting 14 months old) that are just now starting to complain for batteries. Of the 8+ tags I have, I have only replaced one battery so far and that was 2 weeks ago. I just bought some bulk 2032's to start replacing more over the next few weeks. If I get that kind of time on the replacement batteries, I am very impressed!
