Afternoon all,

After years of being a loyal Tile Guy, I’ve finally given up on them and switched the AirTag 2’s, partly thanks to the fact I now get corporate discount at Apple (£88 for 4 ain’t bad) but also because I’ve found Tile becoming increasingly infuriating over the years with it either not pinging when I want it to, or randomly pinging my phone from my pocket because I somehow lightly grazed the trigger button. First world problems.

Anyway, the one thing I miss from the Tile is the incorporated keychain mount (in metal too) so now like everyone else I’m looking at third party cases/holders that have proven to stand the test of time.

I tried the Apple FineWoven holder and it’s legit the only Apple item I’ve unboxed in the store after paying, thought NOPE and immediately started a return. Looks nice but gave me flashbacks of the terrible Finewoven iPhone 15PM cases they launched back in 2023.

The Belkin Secure Holder is looking like the best bang for buck options, but I recall seeing reports of them essentially ‘sealing’ themselves shut after a while which makes battery swaps concerning. Is this very much the case for long term users? Open to either the keyring, strap or carabiner versions.

Also liking the look of Spigen options, namely the Valentinus, Vault and Rugged but curious to see how they’ve held up long term? Has the Valentinus pleather perished? Does the friction fit on Rugged & Vault lose grip over time?

Nomad looks cool, but hard to get in the U.K. and I don’t feel like paying more than what I paid for the damn AirTag.

Open to other options, preferably off Amazon.

I have a Belkin keychain case that's a couple of years old. Not sure what the model name/number is but it's held up well.

A company called Elevation Lab makes rugged AirTag cases and mounts. I have one on my bike and one magnetically attached to the engine block of my car. Got it about a year ago and it hasn't fallen off yet!

Consider 3D printing AirTag cases if you have or have access to a machine. There are hundreds of models on printables.com and thingiverse.com for just about any use case or location imaginable.

When I first purchased AirTags over 3 years ago I bought a couple Belkin cases, which work OK. They’re a 2-piece design that screw together and have loosened some with very light use.

Since then I’ve printed my cases. The one I have on my keychain has been going strong for 2+years.

I’ve bought an AirTag 2 for my global cultures class research project!

I’m exploring how we can improve button battery safety by redesigning battery compartments that are easy to open and those that use screws, but still allow little ones to accidentally swing them open. The goal is to rly stop these things happening and prevent further battery related deaths and injuries. I’ll be using CAD on F360 to redesign them. I’d love to use your idea as inspiration for my research project!
