It's already part or the "find my" network so I really don't see the point.. What can an AirTag do that an iPhone can't?

You can already ring a lost iPhone, find a lost iPhone, and it remains findable even after it's turned off. An AirTag would be pointless, when it already technically has one built in.

No need, as correctly stated already the iPhone essentially was the first device to have an AirTag before they even existed.
