Airtag order already “preparing to ship”?

Just noticed my Airtag order is “preparing to ship” already?

At this rate they’ll be here early (and before 14.5 is out)!

Anyone else’s almost shipping?
 
Interesting! I’ve ordered lots of items from Apple before and never normally get the “preparing to ship” notification until they literally are shipping (or within a day of shipping). So I thought this was odd! Ah well...

With products that are in stock and already released, yes, it may come earlier than the provided date. But with preorders or other products that don't officially release until a certain date, they almost never arrive early, except for maybe a couple that slip through the cracks (delivery employees not following protocol, etc).

You won't get it till Friday, and Apple will make sure of that. I did choose mine for in-store pick up on Friday.

My engraved AirTag is supposed to ship on May 12, but there’s a chance it could come early? Because it’s past official release date of April 30?

You never get the preparing to ship notification. only get notification that it shipped out.

I just got a DHL SMS saying I should receive my 4 AirTags pack before end of day Tue (I’m in Europe)! That’s quite a bit ahead of Fri 30... (won’t complain at all if the SMS info is accurate!!)

I've received the DHL SMS, too, with delivery scheduled for the 27th. I bet that changes. I also have the shipment number from the DHL website. I'm in Italy.

It used to be that preordered items didn’t go to preparing to ship until quite close to release date, but the last few preorders I have made have gone to preparing to ship almost instantly and then stayed there for days.

I wondered whether it is because you can’t now cancel the order. Once it has been received people are more likely to keep them, whereas previously people had days where they were able to cancel.
 
Might get one, no immediate rush. If I ordered online, I'd get this "May 4 - May 6,"
But the choice to pickup at Apple Store down the street remains April 30th. That could change w/ supply and-or demand.

Not sure if this rule applies to every order but my engraved AirTag is ‘Preparing To Ship’ while my standard AirTag is still processing. Two separate orders w/ delivery date of April 30th.

Edit: Just noticed that 1 of 3 shipments is already showing in UPS My Choice as shipped

Yea we just took pickup since we wanted to go there this weekend anyhow.

Received a message from DHL this morning apologizing for sending an SMS saying delivery was scheduled for today. Oops. Now expected on the 30th as originally anticipated.
 
I did order one Air Tag last Friday when pre-order went live, and my order status has preparing for shipping so i think mine could ship later today- Its seems kind of strange when we do pre-orders everything ships out of China- if go back to the beginning someone lives in Chicago, and there AirTag are coming from China
