Wow. I already pre-ordered 4 airtags, but this means that I’ll need twice the amount since I’d need to attach 2 to everything…

I share keys with my wife... thus family sharing would definitively be helpful.

that said, how can I disable the notification on my wife's account for one of my AirTags that is attached to a key set?
and no, it's not to track my wife (we already have find my sharing enabled on our devices 😉 )

First-world problems.
Get your old ipad and create an apple ID for family stuff and use it for everything family sharing.
Old devices get handed down in big families. When I get the new iPhone in September, my 11 Pro is going to my mother in law, her XR is going to my cousin. The people who need this the most aren't always going to just have spare devices laying around.

I am flummoxed as to why AirTag users would bemoan such an oversight; forsooth one must expect Apple to include such a feature in AirTags 2.

You need to wait until she gets the alert and then she will have the option to disable it in the future.

Certainly would be a security issue. It'd allow you to avoid the security measures in place to prevent people tracking others without them knowing. Put one on the wife, set it to be "hers" so that her iPhone doesn't alert her when it's nearby, then Family Sharing it to you so that you can view the location.

Why anyone would think you could share is beyond me. We can't share each others iCloud. Your apple id info is not shareable. Apple doesn't keep track of who lives with who. Pretty crazy IMO.
With family sharing I can see the location of all my wife’s devices. It seemed fairly natural that this would be the same as they all use the find my app.

That is a fairly obvious reason why people thought that it would.

And apple don’t need to keep track of who lives with who outside of the family sharing system that they set up.

Not much crazy about that.

I can imagine that 'security' was a big issue as they were developing and testing these things.
If you'd like multiple people to track the same item, just attach multiple AirTags 😂

For some reason my under-caffeinated mind popped up a picture of Peter Gabriel's 'light suit', with all of the lights on it.

It also used 'old technology' and weighed, supposedly, over 50 pounds, and had a long 'tail' of cables to power the lights. o_O

Another example of people saying they want privacy and security but really don’t care. This is another Apple product that will be vilified in tech blogs yet sell in the millions to normal users. But aren’t ALL Apple products vilified in tech blogs?

Apple said, trillions times. it´s not a PERSON tracker!

But it tracks 'things'. I can't think of a better word to describe a caffeinated child in a theme park, can you?

EDIT: I'm sure my parents could have invented the child leash and harness. My brother was all over the place almost everywhere we went. Call it artificial sweeteners, caffeine, sugar, whatever it was, he was always all over the place. Like a pinball game ball bearing...

I can see how this could be annoying and it probably should be addressed, but can’t you just sign in using the other person’s info to see where there AirTags are as a workaround in the meantime? It’s inconvenient but not impossible.

If you share keys, then take 2 AirTags. Insert the AirTag of person who is taken the keys with you into the key chain.
I have one remote control that two 5 year olds frequently lose, and five different adults who would need to find it, depending on who's around at the time. Two of them are in my iCloud family, two aren't. Is Apple expecting me to have five AirTags hanging off of my remote?
