Probably because it is early AF and I’ve been woken by the wee man but do none of the childless teens on here imploring us to SUPERVISE YOUR KIDS AT ALL TIMES understand that it’s not where your kids are but where these batteries may end up?

Another kid takes a wrong bag to pre school that contains an AirTag and all bets are off. But I’m a terrible parent in that situation?

Jack off.

If there was a screw, people would still complain that "Apple is forcing people to buy tools" and that "we don't want to buy a screwdriver just for that" anyway.

Ok, so faced with this issue, everyone who has concerns and already bought the Airtags can return them or throw them away. Anyone who is thinking about buying them can make the decision not to.

All about choices folks. You do not need an Airtag.
I don’t need to own an AirTag for my kid to possibly come into contact with one.

You’ll learn this is you ever have kids.

Natalist breeders forcing their view and requirements on Apple users again.... gross

Go change some diapers and don’t bother our technology or designs

Tired of this none ending argument "It's for the children" I played with a lot worst things as a child, but you can'y put them into a safety bubble. They have to explore and play and hope with quince they survive and grow.

Perfect opportunity for a 3rd party product! Clear glue that can be released with a little heat. A couple of drops and your child will not be easily able to pop it open. Oh, wait, that already exists? Dang! Another million dollar idea shot down....

All about the Sim City 3000 headlines recently.

I mean that non-offensively, love it :)

I have kids mysef so i know exactly how they can get at things but what about led light strip controllers or sound bar controllers they also come with the cr2032 batteries an they just slot into the controllers on a little tray that can just as easily be pulled out if not easier but they don’t get pulled off the shelves over child safety concerns or a big news story made about it

iFixit mentioned how difficult it is to open the AirTag and get the battery out.
And let's face it, they are the experts in opening stuff. So much for that.

Nope. It's not difficult at all. It's easy to do "by accident" and in fact the battery cover can open on its own in my experience:

What is going on in Australia and the US big tech , this is pure insanity , you allow balloons to be sold (kills children via suffocation) or popcorn or rings to be worn or small change to be used , is it not a concern to have small change that the kid can swallow ? maybe we should ban that ?
I am all for child safety , but I would argue that the most obvious step to help the kids safety is to have parents with common sense or try and help develop common sense for lacking parents , otherwise its just doesn't work , kids are "stupid" and they need attention non stop when they are small and prone to eat batteries ....
Maybe ban stairs ? kids can easily tumble a flight of stairs when they are young and learning how to walk , it seems someone lost its common sense BIG TIME if they believe that this is an actual issue......

Not really. If a kid swallows a coin they will probably not notice and just poop it out. But if a kid swallows a battery, it will cause severe internal burns. Much pain and suffering, long recovery, or even death in some cases. Coin battery cells are very dangerous to small children.

I don't know, but maybe don't give an electrical device to your kids? Maybe supervise them? Maybe take some responsibility...

do you have kids? Doesn’t sound like it from your comment. Young kids are curious, they interact with the world with their mouths. Everything gets shoved in there, it’s how they learn. No parent “gives” there kids devices that can potentially harm them. Kids sometimes just find them, even when you are careful to place things out of the way.

do you remember what is the last iDevice with removable battery?!
Apple is doing the right thing!

Most children could eat the whole thing if they wanted too, let alone the battery. Perhaps a 2021 Tide Pod challenge?
Yeah this thing isn’t much bigger than the battery. Doubt it makes a difference if a kid can open it. Unless batteries are especially delicious.

What about stairs , do you allow them ? balloons , do you allow them ? what about marbles , do you allow them ? what about not buying an AirTag if you are scared of it ? the small children will not interact with any AirTag unless its your own , parents need to have common sense , if they feel they cannot keep things safe from the little ones , then don't buy it at all.

I do have kids , dont buy the AirTag then if you cant keep things away from them or you feel its a risk , simple as that , I have bleach in my house , if kids can reach it and drink it they will be in trouble , but somehow ive managed !! there are endless risks that you mitigate on a daily basis with kids , why is this not just one more thing to consider "Yes I can handle it / No its too risky for me to own".

People (especially when it comes to Apple) will always find something to complain about. Of the 8 AirTags I have, only one is lose. All of the other 7 are in some sort of holder that would require dismantling. The Belkin keychain accessory is probably the "safest" given that you'd need to remove it from a key ring in order to gain access to the AirTag itself.

Edit: I was wrong.

Bleach comes in child-safe packaging. So it's not possible for a small child to open the cap. But is AirTag battery door secure enough against small children? In my experience, maybe not:
