It’s incredibly light.
It’s very small.
The battery lasts for months.
There’s some water resistance built in.

Chuffed to bits with AirTag. I think it’s great! ...and perfect for this application 👏

Except it'll notify the bike thief when they return to their home with your bike that there's an AirTag there...so they'll start taking your bike apart to find the tag.

Unfortunately, as Apple ensured they couldn't be used by stalkers it also means they can't be used reliably to track stolen items - you would need to catch up to the thief before they get home.

Does it notify the thief automatically, or do I have to tell FindMy that I’ve lost it first?
From what I’ve read about AirTag, this bit is unclear.

Looks like I’d have a three-day window to locate the bike after it had been stolen...
that’ll do for now🙂

Nope. That's just how long they're away from you before they start making noise.

If the AirTag is away from you and the thief has an iPhone, they're notified that an AirTag is tracking them when they arrive home.

I stuck one under the seat on my kid’s bike. I can even see where he is when riding around the neighborhood (with some gaps) just because of all the Apple devices in peoples homes, cars, and pockets.
