Wouldn’t it seem logical for Apple Watch to be able to check Airtag location? Am I missing something or is something missing?

Seriously!.. I wrote to Apple several times about this in the past. The Apple Watch should have a full fledged “Find My” app.

I mean, wouldn’t it make perfect sense that the one device that’s the most difficult to lose, since it’s strapped to your wrist, be a perfect hub for tracking all your other devices?

It definitely seems highly logical yes. In fact after updating watchOS I was surprised to see the Apple Watch Find My app still only says "Find People." Makes no sense not to integrate it with the Find My network especially with the U1 chip in the S6.

As others have said it will hopefully come in a software update, it'd be very easy for Apple to add. The hardware is all right there.

I have no idea but is it only the chip or is there other hardware that contributes to 'find my' that would make it not so easy to add to the AW ?

The only hardware that's really needed to track an AirTag is bluebooth and some type of internet connection. The Apple Watch has both. As a bonus, the S6 even has the U1 chip which isn't needed but is extremely useful for close range items.

I'm also in the same position as @James_C where my Apple Watch has a U1 chip but my iPhone doesn't so I'd especially appreciate this feature.

Not sure if it’s due to impact on the battery life?

I doubt it.

Adding Watches to the Find My network the same way as iPhones would be battery intensive since they'd need to be pinging the GPS frequently, but this is unnecessary anyway.

It could easily be implemented so Apple Watches ping the connected iPhone's location through Bluetooth LE or are simply not part of the Find My network themselves at all (since they're usually connected to iPhones anyway) but still add a Find My app to track AirTags, your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other Find My stuff.

Since your watch is on your wrist is the thing you're least likely to lose, and I suspect Apple added the U1 chip to the S6 with the intention of putting Find My support on it in a future update.

Apple has been really lacking in the watch software features for quite a while. Really hope it doesn't take months or until watch os 8 to add a simple software feature. But knowing Apple it'll be a series 7 feature only.

The future of the Watch is health and not apps. So far only a few Watch apps have any meaningful download count. You can clearly the direction has changed since few years ago.

Everyone should write this request to Apple. I’ve been requesting for the Find My app to be on the Apple Watch for years to track my devices but it took until AirTags for people to notice how useful this could be. Even Tile has an Apple Watch app, last I checked.

It will be added.. right now if you get a notification and click it, it will take you to the FindPeople app, and it has no way to track a tag, so it should be added in a future release. They just didnt get to finishing it last time around.

I hope they add this. I recently started running. I got a cellular S6 watch. I leave my phone in my car. I have an airtag on my car key and i carry that on my run. If I lose my keys on my run… my phone is locked up. I’d only have my watch.

They need to create sufficient desire so that they can sell us an awesome new feature on the Watch 7

Doesn’t hurt to write Apple to request a feature but Haruhiko hit the nail on the head. Listen to Apple and competitors’ talk on smart watches. They have focused on the health aspect. Right or wrong, having widely available non health app features is a smaller market. But one that is health oriented has a potential massive market. The bigger market can be effected by how much the watch can do. Most users not only need simple, they need the perception of simple (this huge health market potentially contains many elderly).

I don’t know what y’all are thinking right know, but rather than arguing about what the watch is for abs what it’s not for, just go ahead on apple.com and read about the upcoming features.

They mention that item tracking will arrive on watchOS later this year.

Most of this thread happened way before WWDC
