AirTags need other AirTags and iPhones near by to work. So they become increasingly useless as the local population becomes more sparse.
That’s why I mentioned GPS. I understand it’s not realistic as it'd need a transmitter as well.

I reckon it’d need a gps locator in it. My sisters dog keeps chasing kangaroos and runs off for kilometres. Maybe if the roo had an iPhone it’s its pouch?
Yeah, the Apple Watch has GPS. I was speculating about using one that's equipped with a cellular connection as an improvised dog tracker.

Unlike the AirTag, it would not need proximity to any other device (other than a cell tower) to report back with location.

Maybe you could even train your dog to come home when you yell at it using that walkie-talkie feature :)

My airtags do NOT work well at all! I have changed all the batteries in case that is the prob, but no! I have 5 of them ad they all are useless. I am just waiting for new ones to come out sooooo bad!

Last week my iPhone started to tell me I’m being tracked, but it’s MY AirTags that are tracking me! It thinks I’m maliciously tracking myself! My AirTags show up in my items but yet the iPhone thinks something fishy is going on…

Just another thing not working properly that I have to mess with.
