So after working out in the gym I came back to my locker to find my AirTags on my keys beeping. Why? The gym is in the basement of an old building so it has thick walls and it was not connected to my iPhone while I was working out. I was away from the locker for just two and a half hours. I thought it was said it would beep after 3+ days?

And today I wanted to ride my Vespa scooter and when I arrived to my parking space I found out the AirTag inside was beeping as well. Who knows how long it was beeping. I used my scooter yesterday so again it was less then 3+ days and the AirTag was not moved.

Any ideas what is wrong? And does anybody have similar experiences?

Apple released a firmware update shorting the window before it beeps

That said it’s supposed to be between 8-24 hours, AND they shouldn’t beep if stationary so something does seem amiss.

I’ve noticed a couple of instances where mine where in my belt loop, but Find My alerted me that they were at home! Best guess is that there was something similar for you and it had actually been many more hours than realized? Check settings perhaps?

How often does it beep by the way? I am putting a tag on my bike and I don't want it to randomly beep very loudly out of nowhere.

No idea. It stopped beeping after a few seconds when I arrived. What a useless battery drain if it has been beeping the whole day.

I can also imagine a bomb squad clearing a train station if there is a beeping coming from inside a luggage locker.

This is absolutely ridiculous indeed. For example I was hiking and every day, my airtag would just beep as I hadn't connected my iPhone to the internet for a few hours. Absolutely bonkers.

Mine too, I put my airtag on my bike. Everytime I take my bike to ride, it starts beeping. Tbh it‘s not something that annoy me, but my concern is that it will drain the battery, since I use my bike everyday, that the airtag beeps at least once a day

I have one in my car which is usually beeping when I get inside (I do not have bluetooth all the time active in my phone). I have seen that in Find My App the location usually moves 10-50m during the day. My theory is that the AirTag detects that it is moving and beeps.

I agree with this, one day I don’t bring my phone when I take my bike, but when I move the bike, the airtag beeps

There is an update in iOS which may solve the problem of random beeping because the AirTag thinks it has been moved.

When you tap on "Notify When Left Behind" and then under "Notify Me, Except At," you can add a new location and then set the size for the geofence. I know this is inside the iPhone but there is a hope the AirTag will learn the size of the location it is allowed to be.

If it doesn't at least I get notified that the AirTag thinks its moved and beeps so I can make it stop beeping and draining its battery.

You can also just turn that off in the Find My app.

My wife drove my car the other day for 45 minutes without me - AirTag in the roof lining started beeping and alerted her it had followed her home! I hadn’t driven the car for a few days before but it really should have been in range of my phone on arrival/departure.
