Alert sounds turned off

All my alert sounds stopped working on my PowerMac G5. Even audio on videos on line and my email alert sounds dont work. I can play music using iTunes but thats it. I checked System Preferences and everything looks fine there. Any advice?

And check the Output tab. That all looks OK too?

Well, I'd start by removing ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Then restart.

Unfortunately, this will reset everything you've changed in your System Preferences.
