Hi there,
I've been deliberating on getting myself a firewire interface for a few months. I've pretty much decided on a Presonus firebox based on recommendations from friends. I just noticed what looks like a good deal at a local store: $300 (CAN) for an Alesis MultiMix 8 Firewire. From what I can tell, this would do everything the Firebox can do and a lot more. Meanwhile the Firebox sells at the same store for over $350. Should I jump on this deal for the Alesis? Anybody have any experience with Alesis gear? Here's the product page:

Thanks for your thoughts!

What are you going to be using to for???

What will you be recording?

what software you going to be using?

I plan on doing home recording, for the time being just solo but eventually with a small band. A pair of mics, bass, guitar possibly using the line-outs from my amplifiers. I plan on using Logic. Down the road, I'm looking at a USB keyboard and maybe a used MPC 1000.

My main question is comparing this piece of hardware to a Presonus Firebox. Is there anything the Firebox can do that this thing can't do? From what I can tell, the Multimix includes everything the Firebox has, plus it has basic equalizer functions, and a few more channels. I think the Firebox would satisfy my needs for the foreseeable future, but this store is selling the Multimix for 60$ cheaper than the Firebox.

I think your main difference would be sound quality..

You might want to check the Specs on the Pre-amps of both units.

I would imagine you will get a better sound out of the Presonus
