Until I can store my files locally on an iPad in a more useful way or streaming libraries are more feasible, I don't see myself making any changes in the too-near future.

You can store files locally! Djay Pro has come a long way on this front... (imo library management was unusable on Djay about a year ago but now works great perhaps to upgrades to both iOS and Djay). Files works great in Djay. You can also load in your iTunes library similarly which might be the way to go for larger libraries. Serato is still better for various reason, but this is a solution.

This is such a trash take. Do you think only kids with iPads use this? I have a degree in music production, 13 years of experience recording, creating, editing and manipulating audio, 4 years of college teaching experience, and I DJ at a club. Do vinyl DJs need something to feel superior about because they don't know how to actually produce, or can we all just do what we enjoy without being toxic?

Don't feel bad, a degree wasted indeed. Comparing mixing with producing. Good one.

I first started djing 20 years ago on vinyl but love this app, and Serato, cdjs, etc. There's a time and place for both. Yes, vinyl has a sound that digital will never replace, but the things you can do digitally open so many creative doors that you just can't do on vinyl, or can't do easily. I love when a vinyl dj has an ego and tries to act superior. It's about using the tools you have.

Also --- dance music was created by poor queer black men who were using hand me down equipment and it was their creativity that made an ENTIRE genre or music and culture. That same kid in 2020 can now download an app on their iPhone/iPad/Android device without having to scrape enough money to buy turntables and a mixer and vinyl. Maybe this is their start of something incredible that your feeble mind can't even begin to imagine.

PS THIS IS AWESOME BUT MIX IN KEY W/ CAMELOT SYSTEM!! CMON ALGORRIDIM. That's the only thing missing to keep me from using this software full time.

Started on vinyl and ended up on this crap. Good for you.

Why mix at all?
Just roll a blunt and let it flow guys.
Nothing beats producing a solid track only for kids to deconstruct it by pressing a button showcasing how "pro" they are.

Try this, get a couple of mk2, some wax and mix with that, it's fun too, you actually need an ear and a hand to interact with the record instead of touching a screen, you'll also put out the best sound quality available since decades.

Music democratization does not make you a pro. Neither paying rent playing at your friend's club.

I couldn't agree more. While on one level I am hugely impressed with the technology, as an ex-artist, this sickens me. I used to put a huge amount of effort into creating my music and crafting it as a whole piece. Then something like this comes along and allows people to just pull it to pieces and then try and "make it their own". Don't get me wrong, I know that remixes do the same thing, but that is with permission, and normally with artist approval...not just some random person who takes the hard work of an artist and then appropriates it to show how "talented" they are!

This is actually really cool. I know companies love to throw around the phrase "This changes everything" but this might actually change everything in this space.

"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should."

DJ’s and producers using all the original lines levelled at them by traditional musicians, towards DJ’s and producers using different tech. You have to laugh really.

‘Why don’t you use real records instead of this digital nonsense?’
‘Why don’t you use a real synth instead of a VST’
‘Can’t believe you use a PC. I still use an ST’
‘Why don’t you just get a guitar and play your own music?’

Hilarious.

I've used Algoriddim's Djay apps for years, and using AI to split vocals and drums out of a track live is an incredible use of technology. It's so much easier than trying to find a capella versions of songs to pull out samples or overlay in a mix.

Why even bother clicking on the article if you have no interest in the app, and just want to take a drive-by cheap shot at the concept of subscriptions?

Pretty sure that neither of the posts you quoted said they had no interest in the app. They were both commenting on the subscription nature of it, which they wouldn't have known until they read the article, which they couldn't have done until they clicked on it!!

I am of much the same opinion regarding subscriptions. I think that SaaS is a horrible model. I completely understand why companies prefer it but I think they should still offer a one-time fee, even if that is equivalent to 2 years of subscription, simply because so many of these subscription platforms rely on regular "authorisation" which means that if, for whatever reason, the Dev shuts down, the software probably stops working a month later. Whereas if I purchase the software, it will probably continue working for a good few years (OS updates aside which, in many cases, aren't absolutely necessary).

EDIT: This place is becoming so ridiculous!! I get a thumbs down because I pointed out a fact (that other users hadn't done the thing that they were being accused of...a fact...a provable fact!!! Or was it because I stated that, even though I understood why developers preferred it, I preferred an alternative model, an ownership rather than a renting model!! How brazen of me!!

I'm interested in hearing your original productions. What do you use, logic, protools? I use logic when I'm creating original music myself.

Did I say that? Different tools for different purposes. Sorry you only have one color in your crayon box.
Exactly. When you don't have actual talent you have to cut down the folks who in order to feel elevated.

Which is far from an exaggeration if you can make $2-300/night.
Or if you pay just $5 to have it for your Xmas and New Year's nights.

Since the era of mobile apps, people have a hard time evaluating the value of an app.
I'm often against subscriptions, but this app could easily be sold $100 and have a major version every year.
That would be cool if it was your only expense. But it's not, it's yet another expense, and in this case a rent. A rent that continues on and on and on......... Imagine if every single little piece of hardware and software you used cost $5/month, how much profit would you make then? Most would be making a loss dude.

Oh I couldn't play squat, I'm just a proud parent but hey! my opinion shouldn't stop anyone from feeling "pro" at all. Enjoy your day.

Elevated as in U2's song?
Impressive assumption capabilities right there. This app suits you fine.

I wish you a higher level of elevation the rest of your day. Regards.

Just throwing back the stones that were thrown at me, but alas this conversation is trite. I'm sorry if I hurt feelings.

Happy for people who use turntables. Happy for people who use cdjs. Happy for people who use software. I use all three in different circumstances. If you don't see the value in being able to quickly pick up an iPad and mess around with a couple tracks on the fly in a moments notice, then so be it. If you only champion one solution, that's fine. Are you having fun? Is the music good? If the answer to those two questions is yes, then you're winning. Cheers!
