All 15" LED MBPs Have Yellow On Lower LCD?

I am starting to wonder if all MBPs have a slight yellow on the lower part of the screen. I just recieved my brand new MBP and discovered that it seems to have a very slight (almost unnoticeable) yellow towards the bottom. I was bummed at first but then I started to think about it. Would I have noticed it if it wasn't for this forum. I don't know if I would which tells you how subtle it is.

I went to the Apple store yesterday as well to check out the other MBPs 15" LED versions. They had 2 Matte and 2 Glossy on display. I could pretty much see it on all of the ones on display. Once again what I am seeing is very subtle that 95% won't even know it's there. I was looking for it and trying to put a white background on top and bottom to see how it differs.

Now the big question. Do all MBPs have this issue? I am thinking that they all do. Now I know that there are plenty on this forum that say theirs is 100% perfect but I wonder if that's really true. Perhaps it's just subtle enough not to notice or some people are slightly color blind and don't know it (this is not a joke or an insult, it's actually amazing how many people might be very slightly color blind and never knew it).

I don't know what to do with mine. I have yet to check if it's LG or Samsung. I assume LG has been putting out better screens? I don't want to go through a big hassle only to get the same thing again. Overall the display is beautiful.

    To answer your question, no.

You have five observations and based on this you conclude that the entire product line is bugged? Sorry, statistics don't work that way.

Are you sure you aren't just seeing the effect of the default LCD color profile that has too much yellow in it (which you can get rid of by calibrating the screen)? From what I read here the problem isn't subtle at all.

His whole screen isn't yellow like yours was, your profile with his screen will probably look very blueish instead, and will not solve any yellow tint on the lower part either.

I wasn't making a conclusion but rather asking a question and pointing out a possibility. There might be a possibility that the slight yellowing or even slight darkening towards the bottom may be normal for these new LED screens. I do think that some people have a much more pronounced yellowing/darkening towards the bottom than others. If you're one of these cases, by all means get an exchange.

My point is that if it is normal to have a very subtle yellowing/darkening towards the bottom, then people should just realize that and be happy rather than returning several times to get the same thing over and over again.

"I am thinking that they all do" sounds pretty conclusive to me. Besides, adding a question mark to a bold statement like the one in your subject doesn't make it any less FUD'ish.

Do you have any hard data that might substantiate your theory?

Unless my non-yellow screen is the one that's broken, it's not normal.

I bought one and it was yellow at the bottom. The bigger worry to me was the bottom half seemed to be poorly lit. Has anyone else noticed that?

I think a lot of the speculation (in regards to this being a possibly widespread issue) is the result of Macrumors members posting that an Applecare representative or Apple Store manager told them that Apple engineering is aware that there is an issue with a particular batch of screens.

It also doesn't help that people jump in the threads and start propagating the idea that the full screen yellowing(which can be fixed with calibration)/yellowing due to viewing angles(which is a limitation of the LCD panel) is the same issue as the yellowing occuring at the bottom of the screen when viewed at ANY angle.

If you're looking THAT hard for defects in your screen you're probably going to find one in most cases. If most people can't see this problem you see, they could very well have the issue, but if they can't see it, no problem in my opinion. If it's a big deal to you, you could get them to let you look at the screen before buying.

True but I think it seems like there are many different degress of bottom third yellowing. In my case I can only see a minor yellowing when I use only one of the three different tests available on macrumors forum and that also only after hiding the dock. If I had not read the thread I would have probably never noticed the difference. So it may well be that most of the screens have the bottom yellow problem but owners do not realise. This would be supported by the fact that most people that have noticed this issue and attempted to get a new screen have still identified the same issue on their third and fourth replacements.
The only people that have been happy with their screen are those who did not see the issue on their first MBP and this may be because they have not tried to look hard enough!

ok so these displays have yellowing issuses, form what i've read its due to the LED's and there was always a blueing issue on older displays you just dont notice it as much.

No yellowing here -- I have had mine since they were introduced and have used it in all kinds of lighting situations (basement, outside, plane, office, etc.)

    Can't find it

I keep looking for a yellow cast at the bottom of the screen of my new MBP, but I can't find it. I still think it must be there, since everyone else seems to have it. But sadly I can't see it.

I'm very anal when it comes to screens. From my experiences, I've seen that most, if not all, Samsung screens have the 1/3 yellow defect. However, my friend who was lucky enough to be blessed with an LG screen, does not. I could clearly see that there was no problem, even before checking what the screen manufacturer is. If you ever get the chance to be able to look at an LG screen, you'll see what a good screen should look like, and there is NO YELLOWING at all.
