hello, today I decided to plug my iphone on my mbp 15 2017 while a usb 2.5mm drive was connected + power cable. For a strange reason my mbp stopped charging. When I restarted the computer and did the smc reset, all 4 ports simply stopped working. I had no way to recharge it by any port.

Is it a common problem on these computer or anyone else had a similar issue. The computer battery is now fully dead. I’m heading to the genius bar tomorrow. It was already due for another repair.

I had my 2018 MBP swapped when 1 of the 4 USB-C ports stopped working similarly. They swapped it out as it was covered by warranty, but it didn't register for charging even with the machine off or post SMC resets.

If it can't be detected by that low level firmware to kick off a charge after reset it is safe to assume something failed internally, like a fuse.

Ok update : I left the mbp plugged for 12h and it was fully charged last pm. Still no port working. I used it until 88% and try to charge it for 2 hours. Nothing, still at 88%.

I plugged it in the same port overnight and this morning it was fully charged again, all 4 ports were working perfectly and the battery indicator is finally reacting when I connect / disconnect power. I don't know if it's going to last or not, but I'm backing up all my files right now on an external hd. I'm heading to the apple store tonight and we'll see how it goes.

Did the ports reseted by them self? I don't know.

I left the computer this pm at the retail stop for 9 days. We'll see when he comes. They'll replace : keyboard, trackpack, speakers, all 4 ports and maybe the motherboard. 1700$ worth of parts. We'll see if the problem happen again after that.
