Everytime I update Tahoe, all non system apps ends un in a 'moved item' folder, as well as everything related to them.
Alas, there is no readme there justifying why they were moved, which could allow me to fix the root cause.

Another hint of a possible cause, is that everytime I update the OS, I get a 'new Mac has access to your message' on my other devices;
this leads me to something related to my apple id not being set up right on the mac.

But, never had this problem before. So I have no idea what to do to fix that once and for all

Also, touch id is reset each time, forcing me to re register my fingerprint(s)

The fix will be to erase the disk, reinstall macOS and apps, and recover data from backup.

Reason for it: I really have no idea except that is part of the risk you take using betas (particularly if you started with an early beta).

Hmm, I have no such action, nor have I heard of such an occurrence before
:uh:

Yep
I was thinking along the same lines here. Looks like some inconsistencies in my setup that cannot be properly handled.

The extra pain is that time machine no longer works since the update: the network drive appears to disconnect a few minutes after backup start.

I think I will go through a local drive backup before doing a clean install.

I think your system is seriously glitched. I see none of your issues on Dev Betas on four systems.
I would try downloading a full installer and installing over the current version before trying a complete wipe and restore from backup.

That is extremely...odd. I've never heard of that happening before.

To echo everyone else, a full disk wipe and reinstall is your best option. Before you restore from a backup, did you (or perhaps any apps) change any permissions? I don't have a fullsome understanding of MacOS's disk paritioning scheme but I was under the impression that the system and system apps where on a read-only partition.

Hello,

I have exactly the same issue on my late 2020 MacBook Pro (Intel).

All non-Apple applications have been moved to the Library > Shared > Security > Moved Items > Applications folder after each Tahoe public beta update. This is even the case for applications downloaded from the Mac App Store.

Touch ID is also reset each time, and all my Apple Pay cards are deleted.

I tried erasing my hard drive and doing a clean install by reinstalling all my apps from public beta 5, and last night I updated to public beta 6... and the same thing happened again.

In short, I don't know if this will now be Tahoe's systematic behaviour with every update, and I have to adapt to having my apps in an obscure directory and not using TouchID and Apple Pay, or if it's just because it's a beta. But having tried public betas of previous systems, I've never had this happen before.

Just wondering...

For those who are seeing their non-Apple apps "moved"...
What's your setting in system settings/privacy & security/allow apps from ...?

No, it shouldn't do that just because it's beta.
Beta's shouldn't do a lot of things, but do. Beta's shouldn't destroy my fusion drive, but had when I installed a beta of macos (many years ago) - my fusion drive was gone. Since then, I avoid betas as I don't want to be the guinea pig trying to test apple's software for free.

This wasn't beta for me; it's the final version, and the problem occurs every time I try. The devices are enrolled in Intune and were deployed with MDS and Munki.

* If I upgrade from a fresh install of Sequoia, the problem doesn't occur.
* The problem only occurs on Intel Macs.

Tahoe is a joke. 😢

My intention behind that post was more around the whole "it's a beta, so don't complain" aspect. Every issue can be discussed, whether it's a beta, a release version, or a late-cycle update.
