All Browsers Linking to Gmail for Web Based Email Addresses?

suddenly when i click on an email address in Chrome or Safari it is bringing up my Gmail to send it. i need it to bring up Mail as it had always done until last week.


any suggestions?

Start up mail, the click mail->preferences->general. On my system, the setting of the "Default email reader" seems to drive what happens when I click on an email link.
