People who do music should not update to Yosemite at all. The components that my kids have to record music is not supported by Yosemite. I guess apple for got to let everyone know that..

There's quite a big difference between the OS having bugs so software doesn't work, and then software producers who are too lazy to update their software, as not to use depricated APIs - If that is the case.

what are they using? i use logic X here (and lots of third party plugins and tools) without any problems... always important too to check and make sure an app you depend on will work on a new OS...

You would be better raising the issue with the developers of your kids software, perhaps asking them why they do not make use of the developer previews and other information that Apple provide to enable those developers to update their products.

Apple won't know or care those apps no longer work, that isn't their role or responsibility.
