While syncing my ipod touch to my PC (originally a MAC formatted touch, but worked great with both) all my data now shows up as "other" and is not accessible in the file structure.

I did a forum search and could not find an answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

thats strange, you ususally dont have to "format" it to a specific file structure or like the other ipods (ie; 5G video), it just restores the software.

mine has worked flawlessy under 10.4 tiger, leopard and xp, but i manaully manage my music but sync photos and contacts.

by "all data" what is it specifically? all songs say "other", emails "other" ?
try a back up (in iTunes), then restore (you can restore from a back up as well) and see if that might fix any issues?

you cannot format the touch as it uses ram disks and not a hard drive so it wouldn't show up on the mac as a hard drive. your best bet would be to see if a restore would fix the problem. This will wipe all contents off the ipod and will require a re-sync

The only way to clear the "other" category is to do a restore.

"Other" is the operating system. When it grows to a size 1Gb and above it's because some file fragments haven't erased properly.

thanks for the help.

I thought that the touch did not need to be formatted mac/pc specific and I was hoping that I could backup the "other" category and then somehow pull the data out. It seems that even though the movies, pictures and music are visually there (in "other"), in reality it is gone.

Thanks for the help and clarifications.
