Not if you buy off contract. You just have to pay full price for the phone
So, you're saying to purchase the iphone, but not activate it so I don't have to pay for the monthly voice and data plan and I'd still have the same access (iCloud, iTunes Match, App Store, etc) as an iPod Touch if I connect it to wifi?

I do not think if possible that Apple would actually make an ipod touch 128gb just so that people buy it for keeping music. Its just weird.
I only want a dedicated music player because my iPhone does everything else. I want a portable, docked, music player that connects to iTunes Match, etc, and is not interrupted by phone calls and text messages.

people are also forgetting that many people (kids) don't need the phone functionality. my now 8 year old daughter has enjoyed an iPod touch for many years.

Yes. Though I think he meant cheap android devices with the SD storage option. You could do it with an iPhone 6 128gb but would cost you over a thousand. Or try home sharing and stream your iTunes library over your Wi-Fi network.

Correct, though it will be very expensive to buy it the phone off contract. It would be $850 for the iPhone 6 and $950 for the 6+ off contract (before taxes). But if you're willing to pay, there is a solution.

True.

I recently purchased a Sharp Aquos Crystal... $150 no contract. Stick a 128GB microSD in it and you'd have a terrific portable media player for $250.

The only solution now is for us to buy a used iPhone and use it without service. Unless something happens and apple releases a 6th gen touch which is very unlikely at this point. At this point apple looks to be leaning towards discontinuing the entire ipod line.

I dont do comunications regularly and go to internet only when i need. These are two arguments to use an iPod Touch.

The thing is people are easily poisoned by consumerism claws and think the others have the same needs. And Apple is living very well with this poisoned society.

The thing is: I DONT NEED A FAHKIN' SMARTPHONE. I WANT A NEW IPOD TOUCH! DEAL WITH IT!

I'm still using my iPod touch 5G. I use it more as a camera than a music player tho. Got rid of my smartphone a couple years ago. I have the original iPad mini with an unlimited data plan from AT&T and my iPod touch 5G. I loaded ios8 on both, and both run fine. Happy with battery life.

I really hope they update the touch tho. I doubt it'll be able to run iOS 9 well when it comes out next fall. It'd be nice to have an iPod touch with a faster chip, 128 gigs of storage and a better camera.

I wouldn't mind if they increased the screen as well. Perhaps a 4.7" or 5.5" version just like the iphone 6 & 6plus. They could even rebrand the iPod touch as an ipad nano. :)

A faster chip and larger screen size is good too.

The only reason for the iPodT5 not to be able to run iOS9 is programming ineptitude, or evil Apple decision. Subsequent releases of Android make devices FASTER while adding new features.

I'm typing this on my old Nexus 7 first generation that used to be, when I first got it, quite a bit slower than my iPod5T. Now this Nexus 7 is much faster and smoother then when first purchased, essentially bug free (used to be a bug ridden mess), and packed with new features. The iPodT5... well we all know, don't we. Sigh.

This made me laugh a bit, I'm sorry. The thing is, if there are enough people like you, you'll get your iPod touch, and if there aren't you won't. It's pretty simple. The thing to remember is that the universe doesn't owe you an iPod, so, you know, deal with that..

Wonder

I wonder they will release any such device at all. Me also want a device which I can use for music and games, not for receive others call. Although 64 GB is enough for me, but it would be helpful if I can have a 128 GB iPod

OP has a dock, an android device with 128 GB of storage is kinda worthless when your device doesn't even work with the accessories you have.

It looks to me like the ever-elusive 128gb iPod Touch exists in the form of an iPhone with a bad ESN, or alternatively, a Galaxy S5 with a 128gb micro sd card. Right? These are expensive phones new but they are discounted significantly when they don't work as phones.

Both possibilities are terrific!!

Apple it's bilnded by the money, I hope to be wrong but I don't think Tim Cock realeases new ipod touch... or nano... or shuffle... while he can sell 3 times expensiver iphones to people who doesn't need a smartphone.

I am not sure about iPhones with bad esn's or sprint iPhones but there are options if you need a device that fits in your hand and plays a lot of music. I think your best bet is an android phone with SD card and no service. The used android phones are pretty cheap but you will have to make sure it accepts the larger SD card. You also wouldn't need the latest android for this purpose, a galaxy s4 should hold you for a couple years unless you absolutely need the latest. I personally need a phone that I can use with one hand so the 4 inch screens are perfect for me, the s5 would be too big for me.
