Just was at the Apple store and was told that the new iMacs ALL have desktop CPU's now. I then asked if he meant just the i5 and i7 and was told "no all of the new ones now have desktop CPU's." If this is true, are there any benefits?

The benefit is obviously more power the reason stated before for using the laptop processors was because they generally don't generate as much heat, apparently the new design has fixed this problem.

When I see the part numbers i'll trust it over the rantings of a sales dweeb.

How is more power usage a benefit? Won't that just make more heat?

Does it matter if it does the things you want to do?

Before part numbers are out, it's unclear. iMacs have always used special CPUs with higher TDP than laptops but lower than desktops so we'll see

Actually, no. Why would they have 35W mobile CPU which costs 530$ in low-end and 65W desktop CPU which costs 266$?. BOTH are desktop CPUs and if they are normal CPUs their model numbers are Core 2 Duo E7600 (3.06GHz) and Core 2 Duo E8600 (3.33GHz)

I assumed the C2Ds would be laptop parts, but if they're all desktop parts now then that's awesome :)
