I’m looking for a mid level priced, color, laser, all in one printer. Man it’s hard to choose. Not many out there have decent reviews.

Any recommendations?

I’m using the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479. It has a pretty impressive feature set. I get full functionality from Mac, Windows 10, and iOS. Scanning and printing all works from Mac and Windows.

I initially bought an HP monochrome laser printer and I am underwhelmed with the print quality. The scan quality is awful. I scan multiple pages through the document feeder and the scans come out all wavy. I went back to Staples where I bought it and they will order me a new one.

It was quick to set up and the interface is easy to use. Just wish the quality was as good as my prior 4 year old ink jet that recently died.

I did A LOT of research on this about a year+ ago, and I agree, there are few good options in the color laser all-in-one category. The HP 477fdw (predecessor and almost identical to the current 479) was by far the best according to reviews, with one annoying limitation: it will not scan higher than 300dpi using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).

I ended up going with the Canon Mf731cdw instead, which does support 600dpi scans from the ADF and has otherwise very comparable specs, AND it's cheaper. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. The hardware is very solid; it prints very well and scans acceptably well, but the WiFi support is atrocious, and the software absolutely stinks. The Canon firmware devs haven't even discovered the concept of getting Apple to sign their software to avoid Gatekeeper barfing on the firmware update!

If you have no need or desire to connect via WiFi and have no need to use Canon's software except perhaps for the very occasional scan, then you could probably do worse than the Canon. Otherwise, if you can live with scanning via the ADF at a max of 300dpi, I imagine you'd be happier with the HP 479.

I ended up with the Brother MFC5700DW. It’s a black and white laser printer and it does an good job and suits my work needs well. The print quality is crisp and fast via USB. The automated scanner takes up to 50 pages and does a decent enough job. You can set the dpi and scan to multiple different files. It also has a non-skew feature which straightens a scan that does in crooked.

So I guess I’ll be keeping this one.

Glad you found something you like. There are more options in the B&W laser all-in-one space, as you probably discovered. Not as many options for color laser AIO printers.
