    Hi there

I switched/ upgraded to Mavericks and noticed that a lot of media types are no longer being previewed via Quicklook. I think in the past I needed to install some QL extensions too.

Does anyone know if there's a all-in-one multiple format media plugin for QuickLook? Or a good site that has 'em listed?

This has been asked many times already. You will not like the answer. The answer is NO, and you may ask "why?" The reason why is because Perian is dead, no longer updated, and QT is being phased out.

Some say that perian is not dead, although it sure seems to be. You can check the current progress here:

Did Apple actually downgrade Quicklook? It used to be able to preview so much more, no?

And is Perian really necessary for Quicklook to be able to preview different movie files/ media? Nothing other than that one can install?

I'm no technical expert, but I have been watching the issue.

Apparently Quicklook used Quicktime for certain media formats. Quicklook, for some cases needed a "push" to cause the Quicklook plugins to work (for example the FLV plugin). Perian provided that "push".

Quicktime is an old technology that is being phased out. If I remember correctly, it came out with System 7. (No not OS X 10.7 Lion) We are talking about 20+ years. I remember being in 7th or 8th grade when it came out. 9th at the latest) I received a free copy of System 7 and Quicktime on a stack of floppy disks from a local user group. Apple had sent it for the user group to evaluate, being a small user group (two users), one of which owned a mac, and the other too stubborn to leave the Apple II platform at the time. I was the one with a mac. So, I graduated high school 18 years ago, so that might give you a time frame to picture.

Here are some more forums that have greater technical details than I can provide:
