is there an all in one player out there that can play all kinds of video formats avi, mpeg, wma etc....w/o d/l different codecs?

Do you have the latest version of VLC? They released a patched version 0.8.6a to fix all the problems people had with 0.8.6.

MPlayer OS X could also be worth a look although personally I prefer VLC.

You could also install Perian which is an all in 1 codec pack for Quicktime. I have Perian, AC3, and Flip4Mac installed here for QT and that seems to handle nearly everything VLC can.

i'm on the d/l page for vlc and under the release 0.8.6a section there is a universal binary package, intel package and powerpc package. which one do i want? the intel package since i have an intel processor?

VLC/Mplayer are pretty much only choice,
Mplayer has some trouble tracing the progress in WMV, if u jump seek to fas, it might just close
VLC, however, will have some mask when jump seeking.

well, nothin is perfect.
