I can't even add anything that currently has AppleCare+
Thats what I thought at first too, but it's just not clearly displayed. while some products say 'eligible' thats not actually where you add devices. up at the top if you click add a device you get another list where all of my products showed as addable.

Apple confirmed on the phone to me that Dan Moren was wrong. You can NOT unbundle without canceling IUP entirely.

Apple Care One only works if you have another device active on AppleCare, and it is the "gateway" to older devices. IUP devices do not qualify because they are attached to their financing (eg Citizens Bank in the US or Goldman Sachs). They cannot be separated.

The "solution" is to buy a new device (or add AppleCare to a device recently bought as in 30 days), and add it as the gateway to older devices sub 4 years old that are not on the plan yet. I probably will upgrade my Apple Watch Ultra this year, which will be the gateway device. I hope. My iPhone will remain on IUP and will have its own AppleCare as part of that plan, unless they figure out a way to enter it into the Apple Care One system.

The senior AppleCare rep noted they agree the webpage is hyper confusing and most people would never get this nuance because it is not specifically called out.

It took Apple like 10 years for you to be able to merge iCloud accounts (e.g. those on legacy iTunes only apple IDs) so maybe in 10 more years they'll get this. ha

Maybe a glitch but it let me add xdr Pro Display but does not show up when starting a repair of under “my products “. It still shows in other places. Weird

Same for both my MBP and MBA from yesterday - got the refunds immediately on my Watch and iPhone, but still waiting on the MacBooks :p (one of them will be substantial as I just paid it recently).
Just got one of the MacBooks credited back to my Credit Card. Apple Card refund.

Good to know about this. Guaranteed to bring in a lot of money. But it looks like it will be a long wait before the new AppleCare One is available outside US.

This is really helpful!

I was on the phone for only 2 hours either Apple yesterday. I talked to 6 different reps. The final one set me up for a call this morning and said she would call me back Sunday just to check progress.

From you you said, it sounds like my Vision Pro was my gateway. I easily switched it over and quickly received the gift card for the remaining balance.

What confuses me is this:

What not just say it’s covered by another plan therefore not eligible?
I’m confused why it would tell us specifically to contact support.

So do you think when those of us on IUP get their next new iPhone it will be eligible for AppleCare One?

UPDATE: After talking to senior reps in the AppleCare One area they said they could not unbundle the AppleCare from iPhone Upgrade Program

Loopholes?
1. MDM locked products or Best buy products with insane coverage periods for Applecare+ like 5 years and you cancel for Applecare One and you get refunded like $500 as a gift card?
2. Ipads used to require a remote health checkup before adding applecare+? Now no more health check when adding Applecare one ????

Some people will never understand the longest running scheme in consumer appliance and electronic sales. No one sells you a warranty because it’s a good deal for you. An extended warranty is an incredibly high-margin product for the business. Apple is doing this because they can, and because they know you’re going to pay. On average, over many years, you will not recoup the warranty costs on your gadgets and appliances. Not even close.

As a general rule of thumb, only buy warranty/insurance on items you can’t cover with 1-2 paychecks. Having insurance on your car and home is smart. Having $60-400 warranties on each of your 5 apple devices = bad personal finance decision. Also there’s a good chance your non-Apple credit card can help you with some warranty claims past the 1 year the manufacturer offers, if you paid your bills on time.
