That's funny, I remember when 16 megs was considered a vast amount of memory and now we are talking about a half a gig or so is relatively small. :D
 
Yea, 512 MB should still be a lot, but oh well. Anyway, I am adding an extra 512 today (iHope), and I will run the test on the 4200 drive and the 7200 FW 800 to see what differences appear.

And for those interested, there was a +20 point difference between the WD Raptor drive and the standard 160 GB drive that comes with the dual 2.0.

I am thinking of getting at least another 512 megs RAM for Christmas, so I am curious to see how it would affect performance with the internal HD, too.
 
Here it is. Not really what I expected. i ran the test a number of times, but in general this is what the score was. The Apple installed RAM is CL 2.5, while the Micron chip I used is CL 3, which may explain the lower score.

The only thing that confuses me is the fact that the 15" PowerBooks with a 1.25 GHz G4 seem to generally score higher in the processor benches than the 17" PowerBooks with the 1.33 GHz G4. Wouldn't there be a pretty decent increase in performance with the 17" versions since they have a higher clock speed?

maybe cuz 17" has better resolution and thats takes few points away cuz of video chip need few milisec more and the diff is just 0.8GHz.
 
Wouldn't that be .08 GHz? I believe .8 would make the 17" over 2 GHz. Either way, I am sure the higher clockrate doesn't make much of a difference, which is why I was so confused why Apple didn't just give the 15" models the higher clockrate, also. I seriously doubt that they'd generate any more heat or problems in the smaller case. Either way, the new PowerBooks score pretty high for a single processor G4 considering just months ago the older ones would barely hit 100 points.

I ran it first time without restarting the computer with a score of 52.8, but since restarting I have score of ~44 on average.
