FWIW, I picked up a (our 4th) HP Mini from Verizon today for the Brides bathroom so she can listen to her morning talk shows. Interestingly it had iOS 14.3 on it. The update to 16.1 was 1.6GB in size. Apparently it had been on the shelf for awhile.

Now to find some weight to put in the box and wrap it up for Christmas.

That's a hell of a deal but he lives in Phoenix.

I've never been to a Microcenter before. There's one 50 miles away but that state has sales taxes.

Yoooooo the Apple Watch Ultra got a discount?!

Well that's fantastic. Guess that means next year I can upgrade my Series 6 to one at a nice discount.

Guys, unlocked iphone 13 have any offers except the $50 gift card? Thanks
Prob will be tough to find since price was also dropped $100 compared to last year. Would be nice though!

There may be some deals combined with pre-paid carriers but that tends to be a huge pain.

Where’d you buy for that price?

I'm cheating. 😅

Costco has finally posted the prices they are going to have on the AirPods Pro 2. They are going to have $10 off retail price, so it's a bit meh compared to the Woot offer that has sold out plus any of the other sites that have deeper discounts, but I am an Executive member at Costco, and have 3 gift rewards burning a hole in my pocket: two for around $65, and one for $45, so I'm cashing those in when the sale goes live. In fact, the sale is live now until 11/28/22, but they may offer cheaper in store, so I'll take my chances then.

If I do the math right with the extra $10 savings, it should cost me around $55 before sales tax.

But he is also looking at it the right way as well.

For example, in 2011, I bought my mid-2011 13" MBA (Core i5, 256GB) for $1600 after taxes. Seeing that it is still running solidly - and that is without any upgrading or repairs - if I calculate the per month cost for that Mac, I'm looking at:

11 years * 12 months = 132 months + 5 months (I bought it in June) = 137 months.

$1600 / 137 months = $11.67/month for the total monthly cost of my Mac.

If I took that PC into account at $750 total cost, that 3.5 months gets me:

3 years * 12 months = 36 months + 6 months (half a year) = 42 months.

$750 / 42 = $17.85/month.

But seeing that is only 3.5 years, I'd have to buy a new one every 3.5 years. I'm looking at buying at least 3 of these to barely make the 11 years I've had the MBA. That's $2250 total.

That isn't looking at anything wrong, that is future proofing and showing how durable and long lasting Apple's offerings are compared to a PC, and that upgrading every 2 - 3 years may not net the best value.

I’ll do you one better - I just revived a PMG4 MDD (1.25 GHz x 2). Got it for $50. Fresh install of Tiger and apps, and all I can say is that the machine is nearly as snappy feeling as my M1 Pro MBP. I could actually do some creative/content work on that box.

TCO of Macs is insanely low, with a few outliers (the MBPs from the early 2010’s with the bunk GPUs).

Not that I've seen from Apple or B&H so far. Costco had discounts of $200 and up, depending on model, about a month ago. Unless Costco does another discount for Black Friday/Cyber Monday, I'm probably going to get a refurb from Apple.
Yeah was thinking this too. Ugh. Why couldn’t the M2 Mini have been released

I see what you are trying to say but your example makes zero sense.

If you upgrade every 3 years, you probably won’t be buying the whole system again. You just upgrade cpu/gpu which would cost less. While, there is nothing wrong with using a 5-6 years old intel macbook, newly built (2-3 year-ish) PC would be better choice for many if portability and OS is not taken into consideration.

With all that said, I pick any MacOS device over Windows PC anyday (if not most).

I live too far from the 2 Microcenter stores I used to go to when I lived near Atlanta. They were great for getting what you might need from a brick and mortar store, like when you couldn’t wait for shipping from AMAZON, b & h, newegg…..etc. And they had an Apple department, but it was mainly a pc store. I bought many items from them over the years. They were mostly former grocery stores, and they had a lot of floor space to stock with good items.

The only reason these are considered "deals" is because people's sense of what "reasonable" is has become horribly skewed. $1500 on a laptop computer isn't a "deal", even if it is a shiny new Mac. The average Joe just wants a darn computer. They aren't interested in paying premium prices to have the little Apple icon on it. That means 500 bucks, a basic computer that works. The department stores are chock full of them. All the blather about whose chips are in it is just that... blather. You know how many people are happily just plugging along on 10 year old Win 7 machines, and Macbook Pro machines with Lion or Sierra on them?
Exactly I wish they would either make a bigger screen Air at a lower price or a lower specced Pro 16. I hate they link other high specs to a screen size

FYI, all: in store, Costco is matching the Target and Amazon price for the AirPods Pro 2nd generation. They are at $199 until 11/26.

They are also dropping the IPad Mini 6 down in price, with an $80 instant off the sale price of the 64GB model, bringing it down to $399.

Anyone finding deals on Apple gift cards, I haven't seen any yet? I usually stock up and use it to pay for my Apple One subscription, Apple Music for my niece, etc.

I believe last year Amazon, Best Buy, and Target all had deals where you buy a $100 Apple gift card and got like a free $20 gift card for their store (since I guess they can't discount the actual Apple Gift card anymore like they used to do on iTunes cards).

You're looking at it wrong though.

How much was your 2012 27" iMac at the time, $2000? And how much did you spend on upgrading RAM and SSD, another $200-$400?

Someone could have bought (or better yet built themselves) a really nice desktop PC every 3.5 years with a $700-$750 budget and they'd be where you're at cost-wise (even after factoring in price for a nice 27" monitor), but that Windows PC today would be a heck of a lot faster than what you have (2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5? 3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5?). GPU would be a lot better too.
You're holding it wrong... :p

You forgot to mention Paying for the Best version of that other OS. Because you get the Best version of macOS without have to pay every time a new version comes out. Don't forget all the warts and boils Win has. Of course, it includes for free, the majority of malware in the world. What a Deal! (subscriptions for Anti-virus, MS 365 office and the OS.) Did that double or triple the TCO of that PC? (Pay me now or pay me later, but you will pay.)

How much is that really nice 4-5K monitor that you keep for 10 years? (In metal not plastic)

Sure, maybe all they want to do is play games. (Kick your butt in a game of ping pong - Weird Al)

I like a couple of games - Team Fortress (great on my '19 27" iMac) and No Man's Sky on a PS4.

No Man's Sky is being ported to Apple silicon chips. It is going to be Amazing.
Will buy a M3 based system at that point. Made in Arizona.

Target is the only one I've seen so far. You get a $15 Target gift card when you buy a $100 apple card.

Irrelevant for those who A: don't care about building computers and B: It's Windows.
