Odds that they go back to charging for OS updates because of plummeting hardware sales?

Welcome to 2007 Apple.
I actually have fond memories of 2007 design... back when buttons looked like buttons.
Flat design simplified things and also made it harder for a lot of people to work out what to do.
The design pendulum was always going to swing back into fashion at some stage.

Ever since Apple won the war on jailbreaking they've also killed their main source of inspiration for new iOS features. They've been stealing jailbreak tweaks since the early iOS days and now they can only slowly copy stuff from Android.

I know right. I remember having all these new features and aesthetics on my iPhone X

Wonder how many of these rumored changes will actually materialize. Waiting to hear more about it in the coming weeks.

For all the haters, the look of the UI (not necessarily the UI elements itself) is probably the single thing where I trust Apple the most to do the right thing. I have consistently liked the look of the UI of every single Apple product I have been aware of. But people are resistant to change. iOS 7 did look strange at first, but at the time of iOS 8, I got my hands on an iOS 6 device, and it looked like something from the Stone Age. I have sometimes rejected the look at first glance, but some months in I always end up liking it.

Bring it on, haters.

Edit: Oh, and by the way, strap in for the usual progression of Apple taking it too far in the betas, and rolling back in the final product.

Waiting for the 💩storm starting right after the presentation on WWDC. Remember when the current design was released originally. It needed several years and tweaks to get where it is now. Skeuomorphic
design felt old and outdated and it was time for a refresh.

But Apple reached its goal already. No one is talking about Apple AI anymore, the news concentrate on a may BS design approach from Apple with transparency, glass, blur and roundness. More roundness!!!

More interested in new features and not window dressing. Apple has not completed previous promises.

IMHO, a welcome departure from the boring, flat and unintuitive design that has overstayed its welcome (if it was ever welcome, I’ve been waiting almost 15 years for it to go away).
I am afraid that this redesign will be even worse than the redesign from iOS 6 to iOS 7.

From what I’ve read so far I don’t see any signs of a major design overhaul. I hope the keynote in June will reveal a lot more interesting changes.
It will, but the question increasingly is whether those changes will occur in the latest iOS/iPadOS.

Apple needs to force devs to make sets of icons for each app so you can have a more cohesive look without jailbreaking.

If the new full screen Siri and rainbow Apple intelligence design is anything to go by, Apple may be indeed be going towards more garish designs. Also besides the shape, there’s no rumours on fully redesigned icons which is what’s needed after so many years.

Will there be anything useful too… i mean functionality is what improves things, design is really just an add-on! How about dual app support and real external display support? How about Stage Manager that actually works on an iphone. How about giving us an archive feature for iMessage? Those would all be useful improvements.

Keep in mind that features need to target the broader user base. How many people would plug their phone into a display? AirPlay already does that.

I travel for work and sure some places do have tvs with airplay but the majority of places do not. And so i still need to plug in my device with hdmi. But currently you will see black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.
The iPad Pro at the beginning also didnt have true display support. Even had the black bars on the side of the screen. But two years after its introduction, it got the full support. It was possible back then, so it should be possible now… no need to put in new hardware or even work on a software, just use the string of code they used for the ipad. Done!

I bet you’ve been waiting even longer for bell bottoms to come back. 🤣
