Apple needs to establish deals with each state, so it may be some time before digital IDs are available to all iPhone users in the United States.

and unforutnatley, Apple may not be able to establish deal with ALL states to bring digital ID to iPhone users. Oregon has one of toughest privacy laws, and since they don't trust big techs with our data (they even decided to not go forward with the COVID contact tracing that Google and Apple developed, due to privacy concerns) they will do whatever it takes to make sure big techs don't get hands on state IDs in Oregon. (they already have laws being drafted)

Digital Legacy is actually a very important thing and should’ve been done years ago.

SharePlay was one of the key features I was looking forward to due to me being tech support for family and friends, oh well I have to wait a little longer 😢

You and me both. My family members that want help seem to tell me as little information as possible. Being able to see their screen is going to be a game changer.

Looks like they’ve released and MVP - minimum viable product. In a sense it’s ok because there’s nothing absent from the last version.. or at least at first glance.
This is software delivery of the present and future - stay used to it.

Curious what major points were actually released then that actually are working and complete? Seems like they dropped the ball by saying we’ll take on more than we can.

I rather Apple say here’s 3 things coming out when the next iPhone ships. Then instead of incrementing the OS every year, they just do point releases every month with new smaller features like Home Key iCloud mail relay or something.

Maybe every 2-3 years they can do a major release when significant code needs to be changed to remove legacy stuff or something.

MacRumors seems to avoid this topic, not sure why ... They also did not report about protests in front of apple stores ahead of iPhone 13 launch because of CSAM. 9to5mac did report this!
Huh, interesting... I come here because I always thought this was an actual news site with real reporters etc. not access, shill reporters that are so prevalent in todays society. How sad... maybe it is time to go exploring...

That’s quite a long list. Seems like it will definitely take some time before all of them are released.

Seems Apple has toned down the iOS releases since iOS 11 and iOS 13...

iOS 12 was mostly a stability update with some new features... iOS 14 seems to have gone the same way... I just don't find any use for App Library and I prefer the old style widgets from iOS 13 and earlier...

iOS 15 Safari has made me decide to stick with iOS 14... I'm thinking that either iOS 15 or iOS 16 will be the last for A10 devices...

As always, it's like stay with Windows 10 which has 6 years of updates or go with Windows 11 which is fairly new and will undergo several changes as time goes on...

My iPhone 7 Plus came with iOS 13.4.1 and I wish I should have stayed there or updated to iOS 13.7 but iOS 14 was already several releases that time...

iOs 10 - good, iOS 11 - bad, iOS 12 - good, iOS 13 - bad, iOS 14 - good, iOS 15 - ?

I wouldn't even call it that. Have you tried using slide over with messages on iPadOS? Completely broken.

I’d update to iOS 15 in a heartbeat for a option to turn off screen dimming but instead choose to slow down the processor instead. I’m so fed up with the dimming all the time for various tasks or updates or running hotspot. o_O

I really wish the Digital Legacy feature was around many years ago. My father passed away and it was truly impossible to recover his iCloud pictures. Tried for about two years with Apple and finally gave up. I became so frustrated with Apple as I tried to get though their process. Hopefully things improve over time.
WOW! so sorry you had to deal with that for 2 years! I bet if you were a celebrity and you tweeted only ONCE to apple and Tim CookM he would of sent his peeps to fix you right up but unfortunately we are just customers that pay his Yacht and Beach House and they couldn't care less! 2 YEARS?? WOW SMFH CANT believe nobody helped you! how horrible!

There are multiple features that Apple wasn't able to get ready for launch prior to the debut of iOS and iPadOS 15, which is not unusual. There are usually some iOS features that take a little more time to prepare for primetime, and Apple releases these features in iOS updates.

iOS-15-Later-Features.jpg

Below, we've rounded up iOS 15 additions that weren't ready when iOS 15 launched and will be implemented in iOS 15 updates coming later this year and next year.

SharePlay

A FaceTime feature, SharePlay was available for most of the beta testing period, but it was buggy and in August, Apple confirmed that it wouldn't be implemented when iOS 15 launched.

facetime-shareplay-tv-show.jpg

SharePlay is a way for users to do more on FaceTime calls with friends and family, offering options for watching TV together, listening to music, and screen sharing.

When it launches, SharePlay will be available in iOS 15‌, ‌iPadOS 15‌, ‌macOS Monterey‌, and tvOS 15. Right now, Apple is testing SharePlay in the iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, and tvOS 15.1 betas that are available to developers.

Digital Legacy

Digital Legacy is a feature that lets a person's friends or family members access their data in the event of their death.

Users will be able to set a Legacy Contact and that person will be able to access their Apple ID and personal information like photos after death.

Right now, if someone passes away with a locked iPhone, iPad, or Mac, it's often difficult if not impossible to get access to the device, which Digital Legacy will address.

Digital Legacy was never active in the beta and it is not yet clear when it might be ready for launch.

Keys and IDs in Wallet

HomeKit-enabled locks will be able to be stored in the Wallet app going forward, so you can unlock your front door without having to download a third-party app from an accessory manufacturer. HomeKit accessory makers need to implement this feature and Apple says it will roll out after the launch of iOS 15.

Similarly, digital IDs and driver's licenses will be able to be stored in the Wallet app. The first states to support the feature will include Arizona and Georgia, with Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah to follow.

An exact timeline for the rollout is unknown at this time, but Apple is also working with the TSA to allow digital IDs to be accepted at some airports.

Apple needs to establish deals with each state, so it may be some time before digital IDs are available to all iPhone users in the United States.

App Privacy Report

The App Privacy Report, which Apple plans to roll out in full later this year, will let you know which apps are using the privacy permissions that have been granted to them, like access to the camera, microphone, and location.

ios15-app-privacy-report.jpg

The App Privacy Report is partially implemented through a "Record App Activity" setting that can be toggled on to record a 7-day summary of app activity, but the full implementation is listed as coming soon.

Right now, you can download a JSON file with data on how apps are accessing your data, but eventually, Apple will use this data to generate a full, easy-to-read App Privacy Report.

Siri-Enabled Accessories

Apple is allowing HomeKit accessory makers to integrate Siri functionality into their devices in iOS 15, but it will take time for device manufacturers to implement this functionality and it won't be available at launch.

Siri integration will allow any compatible HomeKit device in the home to send messages, set reminders, contact family members, control devices, and more.

Note that using Siri through a third-party device will require a HomePod mini that can be used to route requests.

Universal Control

An iPadOS 15 and macOS Monterey feature, Universal Control will allow a single input device like a mouse or a keyboard to be used to control multiple Macs or iPads at the same time.

universal-control-wwdc.jpeg

Universal Control was never implemented during the beta testing process and it is not available with the launch of iPadOS 15, with Apple saying it will come later in the fall. Because macOS Monterey isn't coming until later in the year, it's quite possible that the launch of macOS Monterey will also see the launch of Universal Control.

Find My Network Support for AirPods

Shortly before the launch of iOS 15, Apple updated its iOS 15 features page to note that the Find My feature for the AirPods will not be launching until later this fall.

Find My support for AirPods is designed to work with the AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, taking advantage of the Find My network to locate them should they become lost.

Sure hope they improve Find My for AirPods Pro. It never works for me. Just a few days ago I couldn't find them in the house, tried Find My only to have it tell me that they were not connected to the network. A few minutes later I found them one my own, literally 5 feet from where I was standing on the kitchen table. That's happened every single time I've tried Find My with the AirPods Pro. They just never show up.

Go figure. It’s pretty obvious at this point that they get payed/controlled by Apple in some way.

Do you think they should release new iPhones without an OS to support them? Or delay the new phones until the OS is complete? However you define “complete”?
New computers and computer parts have been launching for decades without major OS revisions. You release patches and updates, you don't need all of the stupid 'hype' of a major OS release, particularly when the new features of a phone are no more than incremental upgrades and software oriented anyway.
