So...question here... I’ve been walking 7,000 miles across the highest peaks in America armed with the most capable iPhone on earth for ultralight backpacking... the OG SE

Every Apple device designed under Tim Cook has lessened the end user experience compared to the Steve Jobs SE. It’s 50% lighter than the lightest iPhone on the market in 2020, and has 4x the sound spectrum capability that any iPhone can produce in 2020. (However the iPhone 4 still has the best DAC ever planted in an iPhone, using German precision components instead of the cheap Asian crud that is favored by the gullible masses today)

I would never ever purchase an Apple device that is bogged down with stainless steel or copper charging coils which add undo weight and add zero to the end user experience of a human being who does a marathon every day.

Is there a way to remove these wireless charging components from the device by taking it to an aftermarket cell phone repair shop and having a technician take the phone apart?

Reason being is that I’m intrigued that Apple is actually releasing a slightly smaller device this year, but it will be bogged down by these unnecessary components and will weigh in at around 6.5-7 ounces. If these components are removed then the device should be lighter and more capable for marathons.
It’s a shame that Tim Cook is only doubling the RAM in the 5.4 inch 2020 iPhone compared to the OG SE. Looks like 2021 is the best year to upgrade, this cycle reminds me of the iPhone 6...and Tim Cook purposefully gimped the RAM on that device for planned obsolescence. The iPhone 6S & SE still fires today because of RAM.

6GB RAM should be the minimum for the 5.4 inch iPhone, and they are gimping the 2020 5.4 so that the 2021 5.4 will be powered by the same RAM that the 2020 Pro models have.
Would really enjoy a snappier processor and more local storage capacity over the 128 GB OG SE, and that is why the 5.4 inch iPhone intrigued me...but only if I can lessen the weight of the device to make it more capable for marathons
I get that you’re a troll, but these points are absolutely ridiculous. I agree that modern iPhones are a little heavy, but they’re not heavy enough to change anything on your hikes or your marathons. If you’re really that concerned, maybe don’t have a phone with you? They make an Apple Watch for a reason.
But as for the wireless charging components, they Weigh next to nothing. Removing them wouldn’t change much. And as another poster said, it could literally make the phone heavier by removing them, because Apple will just fill that space with more heavy battery.
And, as for the sound, most people don’t care. It’s all about convenience, not quality. If you wanna listen to high-quality audio, get yourself a vinyl player with a $20,000+ set up, not a $600 phone.
Also, ram management on iOS is so good that 4 GB does get the job done for most people. And that’s what the base iPhone 12s are for, most people. If you need more features, you get the pro ones. Those are the ones with more ram, better cameras, faster processor‘s, etc.
also, again I know you’re just a troll so you’re not even gonna take this seriously, but the original SE was not a Steve Jobs product. Even the iPhone 5 that started that design trend was not a Steve Jobs product. He may have had some hands in it, but by February 2011, he wasn’t actively at the company for much longer. He took a sabbatical in February 2011, resigned in August, and died in October. The iPhone 5 design, battery, etc. probably weren’t finalized until at least spring 2012.
Also, Tim has very, very, very little input on how much ram and what DACthe new iPhones have. He doesn’t control that kind of stuff, the design and engineering teams control that kind of stuff. He’s just the one that has to say OK.

I always call it the SE, but Timmy had to desecrate the founder of this company’s legacy by rebranding “SE” onto an inferior device to erase the last vestige of Jobs’ legacy iPhone

I think it’s wrong for a company to add unnecessary weight to satisfy a small minority of customers who choose to use wireless charging...

The silent majority does not and will not use that feature. It makes the experience better for 30% of consumers...but for the other 70% it’s just 20% more weight with no added function for the user experience.

If Apple goes port-less and removes any capability to recharge the device without a charging mat...then it will kill their ability to sell a device to any backpacker or traveler.
You already ####ed down the back of the consumer by removing the 3.5mm jack for “waterproofing”...when Samsung has devices that retain the jack and have a higher waterproof rating than iPhone. It’s nothing more than a pure money grab to force the dongle on consumers with a less than 20 cent DAC inside it. Because of that any iPhone post A9 has terrible sound quality and latency issues when compared to their predecessors...but when you spend hundreds of millions of dollars to acquire “Beats” you have to remove functionality to force the consumer to shell out 3 figures for “AirPods” or “Beats”...because if the 3.5mm jack was retained then 70% of consumers would tell Apple to take a hike and retain their own headphones

& the new cameras on iPhones will never touch the camera on the RX100. When you pair an OG SE with the RX100 or the DJI Mavic Mini or GoPro Hero 8..you realize that the A9 can power any iOS program to run the best 2020 cameras.

try shooting this with an iPhone, lol

No cell phone will ever yield this type of optical zoom with a gigantic sensor... See the thing Apple hides from you is how tiny the actual camera sensor is...you take a photo and it looks great on an iPhone screen but you can’t blow it up without pixelation issues due to the sensor. I have a sniper rifle of a camera to pair with the lightest iPhone capable of running iOS 14.

The device to get in the next 12 months will not be the iPhone 12, which I promise you will be gimped because 5G is a supercycle like the iPhone 6 was...they will sell the 12like hot cakes and hold back the true innovation for 2021 once enough people fall for the trap.

No, the device to look for is a A14X iPad Pro 12.9 with 6-8GB RAM & the first new screen technology in over half a decade...that is THE device to save for
OK now I know you’re just trolling. “Silent majority?” That tells me way more about your affiliations than it should.
I actually know a lot of regular consumers who use wireless charging, and care way more about that then the phone being 0.02 g lighter.
I also know a couple people who run marathons, and they would just tell you to get an Apple Watch, or don’t bring your phone with you.
And again, as I literally just said, the original iPhone SE was not a Steve Jobs product. Steve Jobs went on a medical sabbatical from Apple in February 2011, resigned from the company in August 2011, and died in October 2011. The iPhone 5 design was probably not finalized until spring/early summer of 2012, months after he died. The original iPhone SE didn’t come out until March 2016, 4 1/2 years after he died. it was not a Steve Jobs product, stop calling it that.

Of course. Apple should just think of the 0.0000000000000000001% of their customer pool that run marathons with their phones in their backpacks, and therefore remove any feature from the phone that can not be used while climbing the highest peaks. The only user experience that matters is yours, and the rest of the customers have to live acording to your needs.
But if they offered removable charging coils, he could save SEVERAL GRAMS of needless weight. That could allow him to carry a couple of extra CC’s of water.

Will no one think of the children?!?

How much weight is this going to add?

Good question. As big as these phones are now with an ‘all glass’ design, stainless bands, you probably wouldn’t notice the weight differential of the charging coil. To put it in perspective, when I upgraded my from the iPhone 7 to the iPhone 8 years ago, (which the 8 has a charging coil), the only weight differential I could actually Physically notice was due to the glass Housing.

I wish they would put the magnets in the charger, and not the phone. Now my phone is going to constantly be sticking to magnetic surfaces and could potentially erase credit cards in my wallet.

I like this concept; Palm did it with their Pre phones back in 2009 and it was great to just throw the phone at the charger and have it stick and charge. But Palm put the magnets in the charging pad and just put metal in the phone that would stick to the magnets.

I've got a thin little stainless steel plate in between the phone and the case so I can clip the phone to my magnetic dashboard phone holder. Maybe that's what it's for?

I think I know what this is for...

airtag.png

Back in February, this article was published on MacRumors: AirTags Said to Be 'Completely Waterproof' and Use Magnetic Charging Like Apple Watch.

My guess is that Apple AirTags will be completely sealed and you will be able to recharge them by magnetically sticking them to the back of the new iPhone 12.

You bring the AirTag close to the back of the phone, and it automatically snaps in position and sticks to the back of the phone and starts charging, perfectly aligned to the charging coil inside the iPhone for maximum speed and efficiency.

It really makes sense when you think about it, because users will scatter AirTags pretty much everywhere and having your phone acting as a portable charger for them is really convenient (you don't need to take the tags back to a charging location).

The battery in the AirTags will be really small, so I would expect a super short charging time... maybe even just 1 or 2 minutes at 5W to reach 80%.

This would be fantastic - it's my #1 complaint about wireless chargers. I don't understand why this hasn't been a thing the whole time.

Wouldn’t this affect the compass? I know on my Apple Watch Series 5 it’s the reason i use the Sport Loop more often than the Milanese Loop.
