Today my wife wanted to download images from a SD card, using the SD card slot in our MacBook Pro 16" M2 Max. My wife has her own user account on our computer, but that account is not an administrator account.

The problem: The computer did not recognize the SD card!

Trying the SD card from my own account, I am administrator on our computer, I got the pop-up message to allow the accessory to connect. After confirming the request the SD card was recognized and everything worked fine.

Going back to the account of my wife the SD card was still not recognized and also the pop-up message did / does not appear.

On the other side, using the SD card slot in my CalDigit TS4, the card was also recognized in the account of my wife.

Has anybody any idea what is the problem in here and how I can resolve this problem?

@bogdanw

Thank you very much for the feedback.

I know that setting, I am just looking for a reason or a fix why the pop-up does not ask for allowance in the account of my wife.

The fix might be simple, give your wife administrator rights :)
Your suggested fix may be simple, but most likely also disastrous… knowing my wife’s “interest” in all computer topics!

Okay, let’s see if there is another possibility…!

Apple doesn’t make it clear if allowing accessories to connect requires an administrator account.
I don’t have Ventura on Apple Silicon, but others might be able to test if standard accounts have the same problem.
If it’s not common and it only happens on your system, resetting the TCC database might help.
From Terminal
Code:
tccutil reset All
and probably
Code:
sudo tccutil reset All
is needed too.
