Apparently Blue light from monitors significantly inhibits melatonin production. It also seems to cause the most eye strain.

Would it be a good idea to be able to change the color temp? I'd like to have a daytime and nighttime setting available like in the program "F.lux."

I usually don't fall asleep right away so I like to use my ipad in bed. I can't be the only one, right?

Quite a few people like something like f.lux and use it if they are able to and decide to jailbreak. Other than that, beyond simply turning down the brightness completely, there's not much else natively that can be changed as far as that goes. Perhaps using the invert colors accessibility option if necessary at times, which can cut down on the white in iOS 7.

It would be great if Apple incorporated the behavior exhibited by f.lux in iOS. I seriously miss that tweak from when I was jailbroken.
