Hi All

Here's an interesting one that might get some curious.

I have a synthesiser, an Access VirusTI - which is an excellent beast of a machine, but as I now have a newer MacBook Pro, I also need to do the associated updates to the synth and control software.

There is a known hurdle that Access points out to its synth owners about relating to the latest version of High Sierra; and that is the additional security measure in preferences that you need to 'Allow' software from external developers. I experienced this issue during the installation process for the control software for my synth, but unfortunately pressing the 'Allow' button does nothing.

There is a message underneath the video (on the Virus.info support site) that explains this...

Also note that Apple prevents unblocking an extension once you use a third party mouse/tablet/trackball etc. which uses it's own kernel extension/driver. If you can't figure out how to get things working, please contact support by using the support form on our website.

I am unable to post a link to the thread as it is located in a private area of the support site only accessibly to registered owners of the synth. However, I only have the official Apple Magic Mouse, Apple keyboard and Apple trackpad installed and connected to my MacBook Pro, and not any third party devices.

I have of course submitted a support ticket on the synths support site, but out of curiosity, I wonder if anyone here might have knowledge of how I might over-ride this issue please.

Any thoughts...?

Try unlocking the pane, before clicking "Allow"

Also afterwards usually a restart of the Mac helps too in some cases.

In order to start VMWare after installation its also blocked. so "Allowing" if from system pane fixed this..

In my case i didn't have to unlock pane, or restart, but all situations are different.

This isn't a problem specific to your music hardware– it affects any software that installs a kernel extension.
Do you have any 3rd party mouse driver software installed? You don't necessarily need a 3rd party device attached. Also, you're not trying to do this remotely, are you? It will never work if you're using screen sharing.

No, I only have ever connected the official Apple devices.

Alas... you writing this has made me consider something. I bought this MacBook Pro off my son, who may have indeed used a 3rd party mouse etc. Great point.

Going to try a clean install on another HDD to see if this fixes it.

Any ideas how I remove offending drivers/kexts from 3rd party mice et al?

If you download and run EtreCheck from here: https://etrecheck.com and then post the results here someone will be able to take a look at the report and it'll be pretty easy to see what's installed.
