And for 450€ you can buy quite a decent gaming rig which is far superior in performance than any MacBook including the MacBook Pro.

If you need the graphics power then yes, if not then it's not worth it...

actually even for simple tasks like watching HD videos, the intel chip might choke at times while the nvidia chip won't. Also don't forget that snow leopard is coming out soon. So while it "might" be adequate to some people now, it will be considered subpar when snow leopard is out.

if you are just using it for casual things like web surfing and word processing then the cheaper blackbook would be a good investment. but if you are doing video editing and and gaming then the new aluminum MB is what you would want. and as for your durability question i havent thrown my aluminum macbook down a flight of stairs so i dont know how durable it is, but if i had to bet i would say the aluminum is going to take a hit bettter, but ill bet the blackboooks screen would be more durable

Let me guess you own a new one. Also I would like for you to link me to where Snow Leopard will make any of the previous gen subpar to the new ones. You can't. I think it makes you feel better about your new purchase to put down the previous one. How about enjoying your new one and not bashing other people's laptops? Both are great machines anyways.

BTW I knows it pisses the new Macbook owners off so damn much knowing their new ones performance aren't any better than the previous ones (graphics only--if you buy a Macbook to play games primarily then you are stupid anyways--they still suck compared to the PC's and Pro model Mac). If I paid what Apple wants for them I would be pissed also.

I play HD movies on my Macbook and never once had a problem. Choke? Never once and I have played dozens of them.

I can't believe people are seriously asking this. Get the new one. There is absolutely no reason to go for a blackbook over the new one (other than a slight price difference).

And I say this as the very satisfied owner of a blackbook 2.2.

I have an older (late 2006) Black Macbook and I love it. I use it mostly as a desktop with ane xternal display. The new ones certainly look nice, and I am sure the aluminum is sturdier, but without a firewire port I wouldn't even consider one. Even if you don't think right now that you will need firewire, think about it seriously before you decide to go with the new Macbook.

Some people need FW. You might not, but many do. The new ones don't have it. The black Macbook can be bought for a lot cheaper than the new ones. Those are 2 good reasons. That said, if you don't need FW and money isn't an issue then buy the new one.

So when you say there isn't any reason to buy one that is BS. Money and FW might be more important to others than you, but they are valid reasons.

Snow Leopard will offload much of the processing to the GPU. For that reason alone, you'd do well to go with the best graphics you can afford; that is, the graphics in the new models.

And... lighten up dude! Life's too short to be on the defensive over your model of computer :)

I mentioned money, but FW is a reasonable point. I do use FW, actually, but only for an external HD that could also run on USB.

In my opinion, if you do something that will break the glass screen (having seen and tested the new mb/mbp's) you would have broken the blackbook's screen as well.:apple:

I've owned a Blackbook previously, and a white MacBook (along with a titanium PowerBook G4 and a 12" PowerBook G4), and have used every Apple laptop in between, and just picked up a 2.4GHz aluminum MacBook. The build quality alone is enough reason to get the aluminum MacBook. In my opinion, it's easily the best quality laptop Apple's ever produced. Add on the additional features and updated graphics processor, and it's a no brainer (if you can afford the price difference).

I have to strongly disagree. I bought the new 2.4 alum Macbook and have been using it for over a week. I don't find it well made. It has slanted keys, the space bar is way too loud, the battery cover isn't tight, and the screen is nothing to brag about. The screen and graphics are a little better than my previous blackbook, but that is all. I think the blackbook was much sturdier.

I will not be keeping it. I will return it and get the Macbook Pro. It makes me mad I bought this thing and it isn't as good as it should be for the price. Apple should be ashamed.

Isn't the MBP made the EXACT same way with the same keyboard? You are the
first person I've run into with such a blanket criticism of the new machines.

I don't care if I'm the first person you heard that from or not. I don't like it for the reasons I stated. I checked out the Pro's and they seem to be much better assembled for whatever reason.

Oh yeah. I just checked the Macbook forum and it seems A LOT of people are having problems also, so I'm not the only person. Thanks though.

I have an early 2008 2.4Ghz 15" MBP. I love it and I highly recommend it. The deals are great on the Apple Store website.

I'm not doubting you, but are you sure yours isn't a one-off problem? I don't see any of those problems in mine. Everything on mine seems exactly as well-built as the MacBook Pro. I can't speak to the fact that the space bar is too loud, as that's subjective, and I don't see (hear) any problems with it.
