Yeah, i think i would be fine with the 256gb hard drive or even 128gb for that matter as i have been using the same laptop with a 110gb hard drive for the last 4 years, 12 hours a day without any problem and i have 30gb left... i save most of my music on an external drive...
Well. there ya go. Different needs for different folks :)

Last thing I want to say about the MBP scree. Even though the 13" is supposedly better (Can't say as I haven't seen them side by side) the MBP screen is phenomenal. I could not imagine that you would be disappointed in any way. I think the bottom line is mobility. The MBP is a lot heavier than the MBA. Personally I don't mind it but having something as light weight as the MBA is nice. I've been kicking it around myself. If there was a 15" option I would jump all over it.

Anyway, whatever you decide enjoy. It's such a better experience. Even something as simple as dragging a jpeg to the Photoshop icon in the dock to open it is pretty niffty. There were so many things I didn't know about but discovered once I started using it that gave me a "wow" moment. Not "OMG WOW!!!" just "wow that's cool". LOL!!

Rambling again, enjoy!!

Personally I would go for the power of the MBP before the speed of the MBA. It seems to me, however, that you are trying to convince others that the air is better. If that is the case, I think your decision has already been made. I don't recall you saying what you use your computer for, or I missed it but I think for you it should come down to this:

Are you a power user? Gamer, designer, video editor, etc? On the other hand, are you using it for simple every day use? Web browsing, word processing, etc?

If you are the former, the MBP is likely the best option. If the latter, go for the MBA. The air will be faster for every day things but for power processing it doesn't compare to the MBP.

+1 Well said.

Thanks all, i will be using it for:

- Web Design (photoshop) (that is why i want the air screen)
- Web Development (requires very little power)
- Web Browsing (requires very little power)
- Email (requires very little power)
- Visio (i know there is no MS Visio for the mac)
- adding music to my iphone

I haven't played one game or watched one video on my current windows laptop which i have owned for over 4 years... and the only time i used the cd drive was to burn some mp3's to a cd for someone which they asked for...

I work on my laptop in work during the day, bring it home at night and use it when i travel at the weekends so i can't see any reason for me to get the Pro over the Air apart from the fact that Photoshop might process some processes a little quicker

If your only "heavy" workload is PhotoShop then go for the air. PhotoShop isn't overly processor intensive so if you don't need the power and don't need the space you might as well go for the speed that the air's SSD will provide.

Yeah, i think it makes the most sense... thanks again to all of you for your input

Why not just get the MBP with an SSD? That way you get the speed and the power.

Just got the MBA... thanks for all your help...

May I ask why you chose the MBA? Because to me it seems like the only actual argument to get it is its design, but I haven't gotten the feeling that you wanted it because of that...

Because:
1 - it is supposed to have a better screen than the 13" pro
2 - it is lighter and more mobile (i use it in work, then at home and then when i travel at the weekend)
3 - i prefer the look... please don't shoot me for saying that :) (although i will be the one using it everyday)

If those were your three main points, why did you even start this thread to begin with? It seems like there is nothing that says "consider getting the MBP" here... :)

I didn't know much about Macs when i first posted this but due to all your help i feel very comfortable on it so far, so big thanks to you all... my house mate has the equivallent in a MBP and that is what started me off on this... but after some consideration, the lighter MBA is more suited to me
