Man pay attention to your gf. I was in the same situation, I could of boughten a powerbook lik I wanted. At my university we have an apple store. So the 12 inch pb woth the superdrive was 1399. The 100 dolalr rebate, and another 150 dollars of the apple care.

I thought it was a pretty sweet deal, but I held off on it. I instead went with the ibook which was 950-100 850. Applecare was 83 so I got my ibook for 923... I think I got a good deal on it.

Girlfriends are smart about spending money. I agree with these people and just save your money for now. Keep getting more cash and maybe you might want to upgrade to a pm or the 20 inch imac. The reality is, the more money you have in your hand, the more you can spend.

Peace

yea im just gonna wait probably 1 more month (3 more paychecks) and then decide....itll be just in time before the ipod promo ends. thanks for all the feedback guys...

I AM EXTREMELY ADDICTED :D :D :D

Anyway, good luck with the iMac man, it really is the best computer that Apple has to offer for it's price.

I want one soooo bad too. But, I have to save up for a car until I'm 16 (I'm 13 :( )

Do it.... Go on, do it.

I dare ya.

Who cares if your girlfriend says no or you really can't afford it, buy it. Make your life interesting, really interesting, make your girlfriend leave you, max out your credit cards - might not be fun but at least it will be interesting. And you could watch the world from the comfort of your massive widescreen.

So go on, do it.

Who's the Boss?

You da boss......

I don't see why people are so against making a purchase using a credit card. If you use a little common sense, you will be fine. I purchased my powerbook with my credit card and paid it off in a couple months no problem. As long as you got an income, which from what I read you do, just plan out how much a month you make and add in the interest. Sure you will pay more because of interest but that is the price you pay for wanting the iMac now. I couldnt wait for my powerbook because I was starting school in a week so I just bought mine.

My card had 0% interest for 6 months however so I had no trouble paying it off. But even if I didn't have that 0% I would have still paid for it. Try to apply for a new card that has an intro rate of 0% and use that.

It sounds like you really want that iMac if your dreaming about it, and it also sounds like you got it planned out where you can pay it off in 2 - 3 months. I say you already made up your mind and that you should just go out and get it. Have some fun.

This user already has a perfectly good iBook and does not exactly NEED a new computer. His original choice was also not the one most of us would recommend.

He will be far better off waiting till he can afford the 17" iMac 2.0 GHz model
with at least 1 GB of RAM.

In the mean time, this brief wait may also benefit the user once he is able to see what Apple offers next month at the Paris Expo.

I think this user's girl friend was wise telling him not to buy on impulse.
The credit card issue is secondary, but still of importance.

We know he WANTS a faster machine, but sometimes it's better to hang in there till you can afford a worthwhile upgrade.

And what if he loses his income? What if an emergency comes up, and because he bought a computer he couldn't afford, he can't deal with it?

Nothing in life is certain, which is why using credit cards to fund unneccesary purchases is a very stupid thing to do.

Why? You already have an iBook that's a pretty decent machine itself. Just go play with that for a bit...

I'm surprised people still want the iMac (including myself, of course) knowing that the Rev a's had such a high failure rate (note: Apple's implicit admission through their extended repair program) while the Rev B's, though more refined, may have the same.

If you had backup machines, I guess sending in for repair is a minor inconvenience; but if it's your ONLY machine? What a pain.

I have a similar setup. But I have a PB, not an iBook. I was thinking about selling my PB to get an iBook, though. I think it's the perfect setup.

I can't justify it. My PB is only 2.5 months old. I'd be lucky to get $1300. I just can't handle losing $200+ in such a short time. :/ That's what I get for being impatient for the iBook update. I was soooo sure they'd be updated at WWDC and when they weren't I bought my PB the next day. I'll get a MacTel iBook. :D
