British Leyland was a political mess, first MG was the bread winner but they wanted to push Triumph because of inside politics. 2nd reliability was terrible with Lucas stuff and the garbage Zenith strombergs carbs they wanted to use and 3rd they just didnt want to modernize the MG part of the business who was forced to go on choking down the engine they had used since the early 60s and that was in the late 70s and yet they were still selling more MGs then Triumphs. Then Add on the EPA regulations. MG even resorted to simply raising the front car on the suspension to meet epa's silly bumper height requirements and adding a huge heavy bumper. And still they were outselling the other makes from Leyland. Piss Poor Management, just like what we have with the American Makes these days. Example GM/Ford not planning for higher fuel costs..........again.

One could argue that the English cars have been lusted for in the United States since the 60's. The original open air Shelby Cobra was an AC Chassis combined with a Ford small block 289. Absolutely stunning and aggressive as hell! The design is still popular today with various kit car manufacturers.

James Bond has long been an ambassador of English cars to America. The Austin Healys, Lotus's (who didn't want an Esprit in 1977?) and Aston Martins.

My Dad's Daimlar 250V8 which is more of a Gentlemans carriage than a sports car, but it's got a fantastic V8 growl.

Ah that's my brother's competition car. Bloody ace fun. About 170bhp, with Quaife Pro sport straight cut g/box, weighs about 800Kg so goes quite well !

It's had a hard hard life, including a brink with destruction in 2003 at a sprint. Taken in little too quickly into a bend, ran onto the curb, the weather was in the 30's the tyres gripped better than they do normally and flicked it up and over. I was sitting on the start line in my Peugeot (and couldn't see the incident) at the time and watched the red flags go out followed by the Ambulance and paramedic cars at high speed

The incident

The amazing rebuild to bring it back to how you see it in the garage now.

Thankfully it's got an AMAZINGLY strong cage, safely fuel cell and stuff. My brother's mate who was driving at the time got out and collapsed due to an injured back... but both car and driver recovered.

We like that. :D nice and subtle too... big thumbs up from me. :D

I take it that's your 205 on the ramp then? how'd you get on with that on the track? I've always found them to be 'edgy' little things. ;) :D

Some video from inside the Escort. For those of you who watch 5th Gear (in the UK) you might recognise the track. It's the Anglesey test track they use.

9Mb in car footage.

I'd forgotten it was my brother, then his mate taking part, both on the video. All going really well until the 360 on the last hairpin. For info it's a 2 lapper, hence why they go through the finish boards on the first lap !

Yep my 205 on the ramp. Handling is quite good, used to be very edgy and would spit you out backwards without warning. Now we've sorted the suspension and corners reasonably well. Totally different experience to the Escort. The 'scort is all torque, where as the Pug is all high revs and power at the top end. We rev it to 8k on an 8valve engine !!!! Approx 170bhp at 7700.

OMG. My Dad used to have one of those in white with red leather interior. I used to love it when he dropped me off at school. Nothing like that engine noise to get the heads turning.
