I work at target and Friday it was raining so much. I had to help move a bunch of stuff in the parking lot and I got soaked. My phone got the message this acessory is not optimized for this iPhone. I had no sound in my phone and couldnt turn it up or down. Luckily I cleaned out the power connector area and it started to work.

I'm sure this happens to people a lot. iPhones are not waterproof. That is for sure.

Is that why they always stop working when I take them for a swim with me? I thought it was the sand...

Put your phone in a Ziploc bag. Problem solved.

    Not many electronics are waterproof.
Try to keep it away from water or talking in the rain.

The Snack Size Ziploc bags are a perfect fit! I always have one in the car for when I know I'll be outside and it looks rainy.

We have a lot of drizzle so I bought plugs for both the dock connector and the headphone jack. Since I use earbuds I lovingly refer to the last one as a "bud plug".

I can relate. On a hike today, I had my iPhone in my shorts front pocket, using Motion X to gps the trail. A log foot bridge had washed out, so I waded across small rapids. With the current and rocky bottom, the going was slow and wobbly. The water was deeper (and colder) than I expected, going to my waist a couple of times. I pulled the phone out of my pocket just as I started to go too deep in a hole. It was slightly wetted; I think the tight fitting case saved it. Fortunately, everything is working. A ziplock bag will become standard for my hikes from now on.

This will really pay off when the cops try to charge you with dealing drugs because they found baggies in your car :)

Thats happens incredibly often, because everyone with small plastic bags is a drug dealer.

Luckily I live in Texas and we haven't had rain in about 7 years. So i don't have worry about water damage from rain.

Thanks for the tip. I was using the regular sized ziplock bag and the snack size ones are 100x better.

There's only 1 speaker on the iPhone, the other is the microphone for phone calls.

I use an iLoc Phone Case for this. It's perfect for these situations.

Rats. I guess this means I better take out those snack-sized baggies of sugar that I like to transport.

I'm really tired of people posting incorrect things on the Internet for others to read.
