I had those altec lansings

I had that same altec lansing set. It really isn't very good. The cable to the subwoofer was really bad, and always made noise. My friend has one too, and that one had the same problem. I haven't been to impressed with anything altec lansing makes these days.

I have to recommend the klipsch promedia 2.1.

That's what I'm using now, and it is a world of difference. I do a lot of recording and mixing rock music, and these are pretty accurat. Those altec lansings are a joke compared to them.

I wouldn't go with bose just because of the price tag, but they might be ok.

My subwoofer does the same. But its not its fault, since i have it on a tile floor. What i did was put a thin white cloth under it, and it seems to work wonders. maybe the same logic can be applied towards the satellites. give it a try..

I know... but that will ruin the look! :)

How about some of the solid (not the woven) thick shelf liner they sell at Lowes? That stuff would be perfect for under your speakers. You can cut it to match the shape of the speaker stand and you likely won't even notice it there. I think it's around 1/16th inch thick.

I bought it for hobby use since it makes nice roads on my train table, but it is also nice as a sound deadener under things like speakers or metal drive enclosures.

Just wondering,

is it necessary to have a big sub like in the logitechs to produce a good bass? Cuz im looking at this thing again and i really have no place for it. Do you think i could get a similar bass from the Bose? (im going to get them this weekend btw)

No way. Real bass can pretty much only be produced with big speakers, or a big sub. The Bose Companion 2 is only going to give a facsimile of real bass.

If bass is important, you might be able to find some speakers with a smaller sub, or bigger desktop only speakers.

Is it only b/c of the 8" subwoofer that you're going with the Bose rather than the Logitechs?

Personally, I don't know how anyone would be able to be happy with a Bose 2.0 system after hearing the THX quality Logitechs...

But glad to hear you made a decision! I'm sure you made the right choice for yourself.

LOL:D I never made my decision yet, i'm going to hear the Bose this weekend. Im probably going to stick with the logitech though, but i have no room for this big sub to fit comfortably. And by the looks of your comment, you seem to really like the logitechs?:p Do you have any other comments about them? I would be really interested...

Bose 2.1, not 2.0

I'm still putting my weight behind the Bose Companion 3 (I have em).... and they are 2.1, not 2.0 as some have mentioned. So you'll get some nice Bass. Not as much as an 8" sub, but good enough for music.

THX makes all the difference for movies, but for music, the Companion 3 will be enough ooomph.

But that's my opinion....

Well other than the ones I made in post #37 of this thread...

I had access to an employee discount at Best Buy, so I tested the Bose (Campanion 2 and 3) and the Logitechs...I chose the Logitechs, even though the Bose 3's would have cost less (after the discount..they were about the same retail price).

I'm not an expert in audio by no means, but I dabble as a musician here and there, so I can appreciate good sound. And to me, the Logitechs' sound quality was a lot better than the Bose.

But then again, I have a big drafting table as a work station, so there's plenty of room for me to fit the sub.

I might just try the Bose out at the store, these speakers are pretty good and it might be to much of a hassle to bring the Bose home and test them out, especially since I do watch a lot of movies on my huge 17" screen:D (im not joking i do watch a lot of stuff on my iMac)

Oh and @spaceball
