I’m specifically looking for an alternative for Music. Tv and movies are perfect through standard home sharing.

My issue, which seems specific to me, is that if I play a movie with surround, then go and play music, the output sticks as surround with the music file.

If I reboot the ATV, all is fine with music - output is as it should be in stereo.

So wanted an alternative to avoid reboots.
Jellyfin seems an alternative but it uses Firecore as the client and I know Firecore’s Infuse does not do Music, it’s movies and TV only.

plex îs mainly a video server, but it also handles music pretty well too.

you can play your stuff on the appleTV, or they have apps for iOS and android too. And it will set itself up to let you stream from anywhere. For iOS they have an app called "plex amp" that's only music.
plus you'll be able to access from any web browser, and share your library with friends if you want.

You can do all that for free. If you get their subscription, you can also download to your phone.

Yeah I don’t like Plex. I have tried it several times and I always have issues with artwork, whether that’s music or movies.

It doesn’t seem to grab embedded
it doesn’t grab everything in my library
it incorrectly marks kind of files
the ui is rather ugly

If I was going to use an alternative for movies and tv it would be Firecore but even that free version won’t use DD 5.1

My search continues …. 😁

Have you heard about Roon? Expensive, music only but great. Not sure it will fit your need, you can give it a try they have a free trial.

Yeah heard of it, looks lovely, but way too much 😂

I may end up not using Computer app for music and just use my FiiO M11 plugged directly into my Marantz receiver.

I do get stereo back by rebooting the ATV so it’s not the end of the world, but you would think there were alternatives, app wise that didn’t cost a fortune or involved subscriptions
