Hi all,
I currently back up all my photos to iCloud, but I am looking for an additional cloud service where I can back my photos up. I’ve got so many family photos and I want complete peace of mind that they are safe.
The one thing I really dislike about iCloud is that you delete photos from the photos app, it also deletes photos from iCloud, meaning effectively all the photos are lost. I know it is unlikely to happen, but it only takes one slip up and I’ve lost everything.

I looked into and started using Google Drive and all seemed ok at first until I then realised that the Google Photos app on iOS basically just acts as a portal to the photo apps, meaning if you delete a photo from the Google photos app, it deletes the photos from google photos, my iPhone AND iCloud. This is absolutely crazy! It means my photos are no safer from being accidently deleted. I realise the photos can be restored from the trash, but I don’t want to rely on this.
I want something that once I upload the photos to that service, they are completely separate from my iPhone and iCloud. So if I delete them form this service, it does NOT delete them from my iPhone or from iCloud.
I’m purely looking for an online solution, not a local storage option as this is something I am exploring separately.

Is anyone able to suggest something?

Thanks in advance!

I hesitate to suggest anything as cloud services have a tendency to change or even disappear…however…

Look into MultiCloud ( https://app.multcloud.com ) if you don't mind paying for storage at two Google accounts and probably a premium account at MultiCloud.

Basically, you're supposed to be able to set up a one-way sync (and schedule it for three times a day) between two Google Photos accounts. So your main iPhone's Google Photos account would sync to a second Google Photos account, one-way, and deleting in the main account wouldn't affect the second account's photos.

The good thing is you can test it with the free version of MultiCloud and two free Google accounts.

if you have a subscription to Amazon Prime - it includes Amazon Photos with unlimited space. The Amazon Photos app is functional, but does not support certain features of iOS 15 like split view, automatic upload, or consistent background upload. I usually let it run using its “Overnight Upload”-mode.

As abovementioned, cloud storage providers can be attacked, hacked, closed etc.
Buy a bumped HDD nugget, backup your photos, wrap it up with a decent foil layer, and hide into somewhere cozy/safe where aren't any magnets

in my case, I try to restore IBM XSeries 236 (old server) for that purpose)
